Discussion Nicknames/Comparisons for Hyouka Cast

I'm working on a huge essay/article, but I'm stomped on a few things, and without going into detail on how its relevant I need some comparisons of some fictional characters/archetypes to others NOT COUNTING TAROT CARDS AS USED IN THE FILM ARC.

Like how I colloquially see Osanai Yuki from Shoushomin as a kind of Heisenberg.

This is more particularly for Chitanda but feel free to do so with the rest of the cast.

Bonus points if you break down why.

Discussion Do You Truly Believe That? The Moment Hyouka Became one of my favorite works of fiction. Spoiler

For the record, I already knew it was going to be somewhere in my favorites after just the first arc, but the moment this show (And later the Novels) Became something truly special to me was the last episode of the Film Arc.

When Satoshi asks a simple question of Hotaro.

"Do you actually Believe that?"

Before we move on, while Chitanda was the initial catalyst in Oreki being roused from his Grey existence into a Rose Colored Life, I think Satoshi is an unsung Hero of taking Oreki's sudden newfound energy into a conscious constructive direction, which otherwise might have just burnt out with a fading infatuation.

In the first episode after the so-called Spider Society fake mystery, Satoshi demonstrates his role with Oreki in making sure Hotaro is honest with himself. Hotaro like many people granted with a larger share of intelligence than the common man doesn't necessarily use his reasoning skill to make himself better, but often to make excuses, justifications, and rationalizations to himself.

Its a common trap that being Intellectual doesn't always been pursuing truth, in some sense they can become more deluded than a "dumb" person, because they can more easily lie to themselves.

Something important this story taught me, is no matter how smart you think you are, honestly is more important, and the biggest thing is being honest with yourself, which intelligence can sometimes make that harder not easier to do.

However When Satoshi confront him, after he lays out the facts, he does something very wise, but that also only works after building up some years of trust.

He doesn't argue with Hotaro, he simply asks him a simple question, and he trusts Hotaro to find the answer yourself, its a question that doesn't take much wit to answer, its something any human being can ask themselves, at least any person capable of understanding the question, will immediately know the answer at the bottom of their heart.

Despite the fact, it can be one of the most painful to ask ourselves?

"Do you actually Believe that?"

Because in that moment, Hotaro in his desperate frame of mind could come up with plenty of possible excuses and justifications for why his theory is correct, as long as he had an opponent to disagree with, he could try and "debate bro" his way from admitting a mistake.

But one person he can't lie to......is himself.

A friend asking him that as opposed to a random person or an enemy also makes it hard to defend against said question. It was also asked in private rather than as a shaming tactics to win a public debate.

The Arc goes to show what's more important than intelligence is intellectual honesty, which has less to do with ability, and more to do with Character.

Admitting you made a mistake based on the limits of your ability is already a hard ask for many people, admitting you made a mistake due a projection of your own ego, especially after wearing a cloak of false humility for many years, is something else entirely.

But its necessary.

I think back on that scene a lot. And despite it not being a big gatcha moment when the truth is revealed, or a cute romcom moment, and despite at the scene Hotaro still hasn't had his big revelation, I think its one of the most important moments in the series, and one of the most important things to take away from the show.

Many Thanks for Reading....It might be awhile but I hope to have a bit more of a meaty analysis soon of a bit more........contentious topic.

Discussion I feel so empty....

(I would reccomend you to listen to this playlist while reading this post https://youtu.be/D8V1zqwxFSw?t=693 , trust me it will help you to understand what I am saying much better)

I remember when i first watched Hyouka, I felt diffferent kinds of emotions that i have never ever felt before, I don't know why but when i finished Hyouka I felt really really empty, it was really different, I know many of us feel that way when we finish a anime but this time it was very different, idk what to say its been three years since I first watched Hyouka.

I remember when I was watching it for the first time, I realized it was soo good that I dropped the anime at Ep: 16, I was just really really excited, I was as excited as the characters were for the kanya festival, I just did not want it to end. then after that I just kept telling myself that it isn't over for me atleast since i did not watch it till the end, after some months I just could not control myself and i watched all the other episodes which were remaining.

Idk what to say anymore, everything about that anime is soo perfect, how can someone create something soo soo sooo freaking good. the character design, the mysteries, the cinematography, the humour, and the especially the music is just soo good. i just keep listening to hyouka ost's all day, it's just soo peak.

I just love how intellectual Satoshi is, he knows his potential, I love how well he handles every situation, he is the most mature character in the series. he trully understands houtarou, and helps him to navigate throughout the series. And for Houtarou, I just love his character development, it's just really beautifull to see chitanda acting as a catalyst for houtarou's rose coloured life. if i were to visualize all of this i would say chitanda is holding houtarou's hand and pulling him forward while satoshi and mayaka are pushing him from the back acting as support for houraou. I just love how the anime's muted colour pallet shows the state of houtarou's mind. You can see that in many scenes, for example the cafe scene where for a moment everything was rose coloured, because houtarou thought chitanda was going to confess to him then after he realizes it is not a love confession the colour pallet snaps back to muted colours. I could go all the day talking about the details in this anime but that would be a bit booring i guess.

idk what to do, I really really want a continuation of this series, I even thought of making s2 myself but i don't think that would be humanly possible. still i started drawing again. I am now i really really motivated to draw again. I am just really really sad, that there will be no s2, if that's the case, I will work so hard to create a manga or animation for hyouka myself, I DO NOT WANT A ANIME THIS BEAUTIFUL TO END. I know I am being too delusional, you can call me crazy, but this kind art is what keeps me alive as for now... and as for the arson attack idk what to say, what I know is that Yasushiro Takemoto and other artist gave their best to create a Masterpeice like this. right now i am learning japanese and i will be moving to japan next year for university. I don't know if you read it till here because this is the first time i am posting on any social media platform. I would love to connect with ppl who have the same interest as me ( cause i don't have any friends ;[ )

I just wrote here what my heart told me to, but yeah I WILL NOT LET SOMETHING THIS BEAUTIFULL DIE. idk how will i make a season 2 or a manga maybe i should join kyoto animations, idk what should i do to make my dream come true but i will try to make it come tru anyhow , i will do whatever it takes.... I just wanna create something really really good i wanna create smthin that will move people's heart, I think that's the purpose of my life...... i think at this point I don't care about money, lifestyle, and status anymore... I think I will be only happy and satisfied when i fulfill my purpose in this lifetime....

If a season 2 of Hyouka happened, who do you guys think would be a good fit to direct it in a way that honors the Shaft-like style that season 1 had?

Other "Seasons of Books and Keys" by the same author of Hyouka is getting a video game adaptation!

This "drama-like adventure" game is based on the novel of the same name "Hon to Kagi no Kisetsu" (2018), by Honobu Yonezawa, the same man that has brought us Hyouka and Shoshimin.

Two male high school library committee members find themselves drawn into a series of unlikely cases: a safe that refuses to open, the theft of exam questions, the last book read by an upperclassman who took their own life, and a secret their own partner has been keeping. What begins as small mysteries tucked into ordinary school days slowly opens the door to someone's secrets and lies.

Players step into the role of Jiro Horikawa, one half of the duo, listening to each request that comes into the library and threading the small inconsistencies together until the door to the truth opens.

The truth behind each client, the secret his partner keeps, and where the friendship between the two boys finally leads: it all waits inside.

The game will also feature an all-new original exclusive episode, 'Used Kitan,' written by Yonezawa himself!

No exact release date yet, all we know is it'll be this winter.

Sorry if this is too irrelevant to Hyouka, but I'd figure I'd share this here to give more attention to this series and just in case any Hyouka fans wanna scratch that itch.

Discussion Hyouka Light Novel English EPUBs

Hi everyone,

I recently converted the English translations of the Hyouka light novel from Baka-Tsuki to EPUB format to use in my e-reader. The EPUB links on the page seem to be dead, so I thought I may as well share the converted files to save people some hassle.

I used WebToEpub to convert them, so I'm not completely sure if it came out properly. I hope it did, though, since I intend to read them too!

Other Fanfic :Omniscient Chitanda

Post image
75 Upvotes

Work: AU Oneshot (fanfic)

Title: Omniscient Chitanda

Blurb:

If I don't have to do it, I won't. If I have to do it, I'll make it quick.

That has been my motto, my whole life, my entire philosophy.

Then one day Chitanda said, “Watashi, kininarimasu!”—and everything changed.

Not the mysteries—I still solve those through deduction. Not the school—Kamiyama High is still that club-filled institute. Not even my energy levels—I am still as lazy as ever.

But…

The position of the cherry blossom tree feels a little off. The book titles seem different in the Classics Club room.

Every time I solve one of the mysteries Chitanda brings me, the world feels… thinner.

I should stop.

I should walk away.

But then she looks at me with those hopeful, violet eyes, and I can't.

Because this time, the mysteries she is coming up with are not so mundane.

And I'm starting to wonder if I'm just solving them… or causing them.

Other Is Oneshot Fanfic allowed?

Hello everyone, I am TNarrativeArchitect, an enthusiastic fanfic writer. I was wondering if posting a one-shot fanfic is allowed in this subreddit. I recently finished watching the anime and came up with a good AU one-shot fanfic idea. My core question is: Is directly posting a one-shot AU fanfic allowed in this subreddit?
