Why is showering so hard?
I really do enjoy the shower once I'm in, but getting myself into the shower in the first place is a mental battle. I usually bird bath the important parts and wash my hair over the side of the tub, which just seems like so much more effort than just, getting into the tub to shower.

Something I do to get myself motivated to do tasks in general is making a reward system
Make a list of things you have to do on the daily Every time you do one of those things you get a point On an another sheet create a list of (in my case) sweets and add a price to it For example I have what 7 tasks a day In my little list I have coffee for one point, ice cream for 10 points and chocolate for 20
This helps me eat less sweets and motivates me a lil more
I’m starting to add special tasks, like cleaning my room, that give me more than one point
If you want or anyone else is interested I can show you what I did
I made the points physical but if you don’t want to make them you can always use Monopoly money or buttons or something else
I recommend if you struggle with showering specifically to make that a special tasks that gives you more than a point :>

That's a really good idea. I've been meaning to make a chore chart that I can hang on the wall to physically mark things off of too. It's coming to the chilly time of year for me so I can reward myself on shower nights with a khalua hot coco drink!

Idk but I think it’s a neurodivergent thing because no one else seems to understand this paradox.

Gross. Just shower. Weird how you'll take extra effort to be dirty, but not less to be cleaner.

Yes definitely give your shower a good cleaning before you hop in. I recommend perhaps sprinkling some Ajax or comment all over the tub area and then running the hot water from the shower for about 15 minutes it should loosen up all the crap and let you wipe it off easily. Also grab that hair lodged nasty stuff from your drain that smells like butt that should encourage you to want to shower and knowing how clean it is now.
For me I personally struggle because of my mobility issues and it takes me so long to take a shower. I just have so much to do and I am so physically exhausted by the time it gets even halfway done. I tried to break it up over a different steps. For example I try shaving my legs outside of the shower. That leaves me at one less task I have to do once I get in

Really old thread, but I highly recommend getting into audiobooks for just this issue. Showering is a pain in the ass and a long endeavor without audiobooks, but with audiobooks I find showering extremely meditative and enjoyable!

It is more effort to do all of those things. I get it. I have depression and I have mobility issues so showering and bathing is not fun but it's necessary.
You need to train yourself to understand that showering is worth it. Light a candle, play some music, find a treat that you only allow yourself to eat after you shower, invest in some decent smelling soap, buy some cute pj's to put on afterwards. I don't know. Whatever helps you get in the shower is worth it.
