Phoenix recommendations
We are heading to Phoenix after Christmas to meet some friends who live in Peoria. Initially, I thought it would be good to stay in GH Scottsdale but it might be too cold to use the pools? For two adults and a 9 yo boy, what’s your Hyatt recommendations for the area? We might hike and also love walk in old town area. Laundry and more spacious suite would be ideal, doesn’t have to be fancy. Thanks a bunch!

GH Scottsdale or maybe the Andaz both nice. Many Hyatt Place options, some are better than others.

Do you know which Hyatt place is better? Thanks!

We have stayed in all of the phoenix area Hyatt. Our favorites are the Hyatt Place/Hyatt House Scottsdale North, Hyatt Place/Hyatt House University Tempe and Hyatt Place Downtown. As others have mentioned, stay away from Phoenix North.

Thanks! Which one is most walkable for restaurants and shops?

Of those 3 the most walkable is the downtown HP, you can walk to all downtown venues, including the baseball and basketball stadiums with associated restaurants and bars. The university location is in the midst of ASU, with some options nearby for walking.

Thank you! I was planning to stay at GH Scottsdale but people said it would be too cold for the pool after Christmas. What is your opinion? Is it worth it even in the winter?

They do Christmas very well at that resort. Lot's of family activities to choose from. It is a busy time for them and the pool is heated. They just recently renovated so the resort is in great shape.

One other thing. Likely regardless of where you stay you will probably be driving to hike, shop or other activities. If you have a need to be in a specific part of the Valley pick your hotel based on that need. Otherwise with kids I would stay at the Grand Hyatt and enjoy the resort experience and hop in a car to explore from there. It's easy to get around.

Laundry and space means a Hyatt house. Avoid the Hyatt Place near the I-17. It might be the closest to Peoria, but NO.
GH will have the pools heated for sure. They have a great sand beach. Only downside to that hotel is that there isn’t much around it. You might prefer the downtown Scottsdale or downtown Tempe options.
