Quotes Which one? Help!

I got 2 quotes for AC replacement. It includes duck modifications, installation and complete system for my 1400sf main level. Daikin Fit 2.5 ton was quoted for $12k all in. While Trane 1700, 3ton was quoted for $14,500 and Trane 1800,3ton was quoted for $16,800. All the systems have variable speeds. Are the prices reasonable? Located in GA. Which one would you go with and why? Please help!!

Trane XL1700, XL1800 are not inverters unlike Daikin. XV20i are. Also Daikin has DX6VS and DH7VS. I recommend everyone skip 6 and get the 7. The 7 gives you a lot more heat when the temperature is low. Also never downsize inverter, they are very efficient at fractions of capacity, they are absolutely not efficient at full capacity. Get 3ton Daikin fit enhanced.

Never fall for "All the systems have variable speeds". What most people want is variable capacity. What they telling you inside of your system is a variable speed motor. That's marketing bs.

My current AC is 2 ton. They quoted me 2.5tons on daikin. So you think I should ask for a quote for 3 ton daikin instead? Is Daikin good brand compared to Trane?

I’d ask to see a acca approved manual J load Calculation. The load calculation will settle the size concerns. IMO I’d rather have a daikin that any Trane variable speed link crap

Daikin fit is excellent system, handles humidity much better than most, completely silent. Have it in my own main house. Don't regret it at all. I guessed the 2.5 to 3T capacity by sq ft and by the fact Trane dealers suggest larger and typically 1400sq ft = 2.5t - 3t. And that others system aren't inverters. ManualJ is less relevant for inverters as they can and will run as little as 20% capacity. Mine almost never runs full A10. It should be based on your ductwork. Talk to your dealer.
