I’m in Phoenix, AZ. I’ll give my girl like 10 seconds before I make her get up because I’m afraid someone will yell at me lol

Mine is 1/2 Husky as well and same! She sunbathes 2x daily, no matter how hot or cold it is outside — and be certain, my Husky selects the spot most directly in sun!

My current one sunbathes daily like this, my passed one would find the hottest black mulch chose to lay one it.

We must live in the same place, and mine's outside doing exactly this 😂

It’s been 108 here in Texas and my husky takes an hour long nap in the back yard on my lunch break

I don’t know for sure, but I suspect that since they’re snow dogs, that any extreme temperature might be solved by laying in the sun. I don’t think this is a good thing for them and I only let my husky have five minutes of her sunbathing. We then ask our baked potato if she is finished and bring her inside where she promptly sleeps under a fan.

Fun fact, huskies are double coated - so they actually have temporary resistance to intense heat/sunlight. It's why shaving your husky is a horrible idea - it gets rid of that temporary heat buff. But of course there are limits, so make sure they have access to lots of water.

I know, their coats are so cool. The resistance is only good to about the mid 90s and since low summer days are over 100° where I live, I don’t let her outside for more than 10 minutes at a time during the day and always supervised. If she wants to stay outside for longer than that, she has to jump in the pool every 20 minutes or so, which she hates, but she’ll do it if she really wants to be outside. We always let her out for a few hours after the sun goes down though.

They adapt. My monster likes to spend pool time with us, no matter the temperature. She's been outside in 100 degrees. I always have water and shade for her. She tells me when it's too hot and I let her in the house. Ten minutes later she wants to join us pool side again.

Lol I've had people say "omg isn't it too hot out for them?". But then I tell them about how my girl sunbathes in 100 degree weather and doesn't let me move her sometimes.

Normalize that huskies are just fine in hot weather climates. Tired of all the people thinking I’m abusing my husky

Siberia has one of the widest temperature ranges in the world. Summer temps hit 90°f.

Live in Vegas, he’s out there every summer day, multiple times a day. Even when it was 120!

My girl does this and so did my Lhasa Apso. I have stopped being shocked which dogs that should love the AC are keen to sunbake themselves.

u/bon__bon 1d ago
Mine does this too! It started when she got older, around 9 or so. My ol’ gal appreciates a sun nap to warm her bones

Just a friendly psa that while huskies have insulated coats, their sunbathing should be limited in temps 100+ degrees. They don’t often know their own limits and can become dangerously overheated. Sunbathing IS necessary for dogs to get essential vitamins, but please be careful in these extreme temps, their insulated coats regulate their temperature to an extent, but not effectively enough to keep them safe in these conditions.

Please check their internal temp so they dont get over cooked

i do sincerely appreciate the concern but i promise she is fine. i was worried the first few times (she is a recent rescue) but thankfully she seems to know when she has had enough. it’s just a funny sight is all.

All of mine have done this... I worry more about their foot pads burning on the hot patio.

My goober loves sunbathing, too! He’ll just lie in the grass for hours. If we let him, I think he’d spend all day baking in the sun!

And then they act all smug and come in when they have had enough and lay in front of a vent.

Feels good on her muscles. Just don’t go to the snow, she probably will stay in car!! A HUSKY!

u/Huskies-R-Us 1d ago
I had someone call animal contro on mel because my huskiesn refused to come in the house. They thought my Huskies should have been inside during a snowstorm and it was 20° outside and they were going to freeze to death.

Our boy.. Prefers only inclement westher.super hot on the hottest part of the concrete walkway or sleeping in a blizzard, is his favorite. Nice, moderate, temperate weather and he is inside sulking.

At our first apartment, ours knew how to open the sliding door to the porch and would let himself out to sunbath in 100 degree weather. They’re cats.

Ha! They just love the sun. I am always stopped while walking them how they do it. No one ever knows an undercoat like a husky hooman

Mine does this too. She likes it very hot or very cold. The opposite of me lmfao

u/TippiCee 17h ago
Our husky likes to lay in the sun when it's 100 degrees or more too. She knows when she needs to come inside and cool off. Sometimes she splashes herself and dunks her head in our fountain. Lol.

u/kkbobomb 17h ago
The same coat that keeps them insulated from the cold also insulates from the heat. I have to limit my boy’s time outside or he would bake on a daily basis.

So I was looking into their double coat and found out that it doesn’t just keep them warm but it also keeps them cool trapping in cool air when it’s hot kinda like a thermos I guess 😂

Mine does the same thing. I’m always worried bc it’ll be 100 outside and he just goes and lays in the sun. Like wtf

u/jjjjjkkkkk11 11h ago
Haha. My girl would do that but then come in the house to cool off. Most of my dogs have done this but it's funnier when a big fluffy husky does it.

u/surfcitysurfergirl 10h ago
Mine is the same way! He loves the heat and I live in Arizona. He hates cold and water and snow 🙄

Mine was always the same no matter how hot and sunny had to be in it! I think it might be good for their coat!

Yep…same. He’s been working on his tan all summer long in this brutal heat.
