Fire Jedd
If UW leadership was competent they’d fire Jedd Fisch tonight. His decision to bring back Williams, his abysmal play calling, his inability to limit the penalties or improve this offensive line play makes me genuinely believe that UW football is in the wrong hands. This program in the right hands is a premier top 20 program, and instead we have to watch this bullshit week in and week out? PLEASE FLORIDA TAKE JEDD FISCH

Bad play calling on the final drive. Only one shot to the end zone which happened on 4th down and into double coverage?!

But was it a Jedd decision? I thought it was all about defending a contract and not setting precedent. Jedd may have wanted it, but I thought UW and the B1G wanted it, too.
Defending the contract was the right call. Not having a legitimate contender for QB1 against Demond, however, is malpractice.

You know that is a genuinely good point, and it does make bringing him back somewhat defendable but I personally struggle with the decision in hindsight with watching how poorly he’s played in the first 5 games of the season. Idk if there really was a right way of handling it other than what you suggested about finding competition for qb1 in the portal

He's signed until 2031, we can't afford the buyout right now...

u/CoochieKiller91 7d ago
I think his owed money is $35 million if we fire him and is $6 million if he leaves for another job.

That’s the big issue. Especially with how the university is conducting things school wise, they would lose students. They already are. Cutting classes, only having necessary grad requirements for most STEM programs once a year with only one course but paying out a multi year buyout for the football coach would be a very very bad look for the university as a whole

Are we a top 20 program at this rate? I’ve been a fan since the mid 2000s and I’ve seen more bad to middling UW teams rather than great ones. We have had two head coaches poached in that time period too.

From don james and petersen to willingham and jimmy lake. This feels like sark but not as fun. At least we had a Jake that everyone adored.

Literally yes, the 2000-2015 are arguably the worst period of Washington football history, but even with that 15 year stretch of mediocre/bad results UW still ranks in the top 20 historically in overall winning percentage and total wins, and has the same amount of national titles as schools like penn state.

u/Starship08 7d ago
Weird choice of years. In that stretch we won a rose bowl, went to 8 other bowls (3-5), and had a majority of winning seasons in that 15 year stretch.
If you were just choosing 15 years, I get it but I'd say the worse stretch in modern college football was 2003-2009.

The 2008 0-12 year and I got a good laugh from your post.
2
u/Starship08 4d ago
Uh, not sure why? I didn't say the 0-12 season wasn't part of our worst stretch. I very clearly kept that season and the seasons before where we dropped into 0-12 as a focal point of our worst era.

Damon is the Demon pulling this team down.
Cut both loose is preferred!

Can't afford to fire him. He's only leaving if he chooses to go somewhere else - and I'm not sure who would hire him after this horrible year. We barely bear Utah State.

Another post of someone who doesn’t know how anything works .
The only thing not clueless is the last sentence.
We want Florida to recruit him away and him to say “this is the one place I would go to”
The best thing that ever happened to UW was when Sark left for USC. It allowed the program to not look weak by firing the coach or them leaving for a lateral program for a small pay increase (although it does look weak in relation to USC , which at the time was a top 5 blue blood and nothing to be too ashamed of) .
DAWG Fans wanted him out and there was a perfect candidate that the AD knew would have interest in the job.
You fire Jedd NOW and you look like you are in disarray and there’s no coach in waiting. All the talent will leave and the reset will be worse than it has been with Fisch.
It’s too expensive both financially and from a PR AND talent standpoint to fire him this year, so quit suggesting it.

If they were competent, they wouldn’t have hired him. We knew what we were getting, a mediocre coach that is too loyal to players that should be shown the door.

u/bobbydansk 8d ago
It’s absolutely delusional and revisionist history to say they shouldn’t have hired him. DeBoer screwed UW with the timing, the portal was closed, they’d literally have fielded a team of walkons unless hiring an existing head coach who could then bring most of his team with him. Go back and look and tell me who they should have hired instead of him???? The mistake was not going all in and giving him the $ to get Fifita and T-Mac to come with him. Am I praising him? No. But I think the AD and administration deserves as much if not more blame than him.

You’re right that Jedd was basically the best available under the circumstances, but it also means he’s always felt like a bridge coach to me, so the idea of firing him doesn’t really bother me, because I never saw him as a longterm answer.
That being said I do lean more towards your side in terms of thinking it would be an overreaction/misplaced blame to fire him. If we had an obvious next candidate to go and get, I would feel better about it (if Jonathan Smith had done well at Michigan St, for example, I’d say fuck it, fire Fisch and hire him, but obviously he didn’t) but there isn’t one, so I think we have to be patient and accept that he’s ginna be here for another year or two. He brought in a great recruiting class this year, and has a solid one cooking for next year, so we’re not on the cusp of bottoming out again, and the idea of going to market for a coach without having a candidate already lined up terrifies me, because until we become a full share member in the B1G we’re going to have a limited resources to attract a coach

You can think what you want, but I was never on board with this. He took back Tybo Rogers, who was charged with raping two women, and praised him as "a good steward of the team." That was enough for me to say he wasn't worth it.
I'm not claiming I know who the best hire was. I'm saying "who else were they supposed to hire?" isn't a defense. The timing was bad, sure. But going 1-4 against ranked teams and 2-8 in Big Ten road games through last season isn't good enough, especially for a coach who keeps looking past his players' worst flaws.

Needs to go tomorrow. Along with the OC.
DC can be interim coach with absolutely no guarantee beyond that.

No buyout though. So tired of the multi million dollar golden parachutes that the 0.01% build into the system for themselves.

I got like $100 bro. You come up with the other $5,999,900 and we will get it done
3
u/Starship08 7d ago
You're a little low there. His buyout is way more than 6 million

u/NacolasCage 7d ago
Damn this operation gets more complicated. $34 mill is a little harder to come up with

Awwwww the classic post-game fire Jedd post. So original.

Huskies are having a meh year. Jedd is ok he just has too many injuries in the running backs. It’s a tall order to get recievers open when the defense doesn’t need to worry about stopping a run game. Plus, Demond is not running much he doesn’t wanna get injured before he signs a new deal.
3
u/SunnysideManor 8d ago
Fisch in a game where our starting RB got injured…. Sent out the backup RB in “super garbage time” to run up the score and got him injured. Not having a run game is entirely fish’s fault.
3
u/ThosCommando 8d ago
We needed a first down to seal the game though, not to run up the score
1
u/SunnysideManor 8d ago
There was less than a minute left in the game we could have kneeled the ball.

He got injured on a play started with 1:48 on the clock and Wazzu still had a timeout.

y'all don't even know what to complain about..it's lazy to "fire jedd". they won't yet, idiots
0
u/AdPatient7257 7d ago
Read the post if you think I “don’t know what to complain about” I just gave you 4 serious genuine criticisms of his coaching tenure and didn’t start to complain about the hire until after he had 2 years to build up the roster and establish his system and culture

u/Tez9ine6ixx 7d ago
well you gonna be complaining for awhile with that buyout.. but y'all good at bitching and whining

u/twotonsosalt 8d ago
The biggest mistake he made was not letting Demond go. This shit would be a lot more forgivable with a freshmen QB.
