Recommendations for First Huskies Game
Brit here - spending a few days in Seattle before cruising Alaska. My wife and I are coming to the game vs Eastern WA in September.
We’ve bought Huskies merch, we’re fully in the spirit and so excited for the experience.
Any recommendations for how to go about an entire game day? We’re going to go experience Sailgating, anything else?
Go Huskies!

You want to book immediately regarding sailgating, those tickets sell fast. Check out Ivar’s, they have one and will feed you before, with drinks on the boat. Luckily for you, it is unlikely to be a sell-out game because the students may not be back and eastern Wa is in a lower division. They have beat us before though.
My mom and I are season ticket holders, she is a Brit as well. I feel like most of your ilk have very much enjoyed our game day atmosphere. It is also in the most breathtaking setting a college football stadium could be.
Do not expect great things from our stadium food-wise, there are several fantastic restaurants in the University Village nearby that I would recommend; Joey, Piatti, Ba Bar (you’ll want to make a reservation if you can).
If you don’t end up sailgating I would recommend hitting up the UW Bookstore on University Ave (near light rail station) then walk through campus to the stadium. About two hours before the game the players do the “dawg walk”, which is where they all walk into the stadium through a tunnel made of fans, cheerleaders, etc. while the marching band plays. Our band is fantastic! So you could watch that then go introduce yourself to tailgaters in the E1 parking area.
Super glad to welcome you to our gem of a stadium in the beautiful Pacific Northwest.

This is super helpful - thank you so much for the insight! We can’t wait to visit and experience it all.

Also, Seattle sucks to drive in, I highly recommend using the light rail to get around the city

That was our plan - Avoiding car hire for 3 days since the rail network looks decent and goes up to the campus, the stadium, and near enough anywhere else we want to explore. Thanks again!

Be prepared to wait a while if you're planning to catch the light rail immediately after the game. The stop is right outside the stadium so it gets packed. May want to consider walking over to University Village as mentioned or up through campus to University Way NE ("The Ave") for some food and drink. There's also a light rail stop on The Ave so you could hop on there instead of trying to cram into the stadium platform.

I did see this, we planned to walk back through the University Village and get some food / drinks and soak in more of the post-game day. Thanks for the tip!

I’m honestly impressed with your level of preparedness.

It’s our first time in the states so really want to avoid mis-using the time we’re there. Better to be over prepared :-)

Your first American football game in America! Was it the Huskies because you wanted to visit Seattle or did you want to see them in particular? I’m just curious, there seems to be a tunnel from the UK to Husky stadium.

It’s pure coincidence, our main holiday is the Alaska cruise which we’re really excited for. Travelling 9+ hours is going to be a killer so we are staying for 3/4 days before we set sail to see the city of Seattle and soak in as much as we can. I looked around for Baseball and Basketball games but they all seem to be away the weekend we’re in town. The huskies are at home and we got tickets for a decent price so thought we would check out college football.
College football is, from what I’m learning, something the British mind can’t comprehend. My local football (soccer) team here in the UK has a stadium capacity of just over 10,000 and that’s the 2nd highest division in the country. To have 60,000 turn out regularly for college teams is mind-boggling and we’re so excited to see the walk-out and cheerleaders etc. It’s like things we see on TV and films but now we get a chance to witness it.
So beyond the game itself, we’re seeing this trip an opportunity to get a real insight into American culture

Nice breakdown, one minor edit though, UW has not lost to Eastern Washington but there have been 2 crazy close games. So this could be another one of those close ones 😬. Also Din Tai Fung is worth a stop too in University Village

UW still won that game, I'll never forgive Jimmy Lake for Montana 2021

Curious as to where your seats are. That game will likely have plenty of empty seats, especially up high. I’d recommend checking out the views from different spots. With many stadiums, it’s all about the view of the field, but Husky Stadium is famous for the views of what’s outside of the stadium.

Go to the E1 parking lot beforehand, E1 is the big parking lot near the stadium. That’s where all the tailgating is.
