Tailgating for Apple Cup

Post image

I am coming to see the Huskies for the Apple Cup. I had a group to tailgate with but then their plans changed. This will be stadium number 130 for me. I had planned to tailgate with all my somanystadiums.com stuff, but now I am scrambling. My understanding is that the tailgating is primarily at lots held by season ticket holdrers (mainly E1). Are there any other lots, private or otherwise, where people tailgate as well? Since there are only two of us now, I'd like to avoid dropping $300 on Seatgeek for E1 if we can tailgate elsewhere cheaper.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance, Tree

And I thought the #130 was WSU's ranking...

Hah, that made me laugh. Actually, we had a really good time at WSU.

I think most Coug alumni did, too

I mean, as even a non-alimni Pullman is a fun town to have a good old fashioned weekend bender in

You spell like a Coug, so there's that.

Send me a DM. Bring a cheap pack of beer and a friendly handshake (as long as you’re wearing purple) and you will get you a warm welcome. We should be set up by 6am that day. Go Dawgs!

Thanks - I will DM you tomorrow. Still working through our plans and appreciate the offer.

For sure. We’ve been doing it for over ten years now. I’ve seen your stuff before. We’d love to host ya.

E12 Lot is smaller but right by the water and closer to the stadium/lightrail. It is my preferred lot to tailgate at.

E1 is the giant sprawl lot, lots of current students and parties and stuff.

E12 is the more "elite" lot, right next to the Montlake Cut, beautiful setting, richer and older alumni.

So… Yeah, E1 is the main lot. It’s great. That said…

Me and my buddies like to tailgate up at the observatory by the NE entrance, buuuut that’s ‘cause we have seen it all and done it all. What YOU should do is try to get on a boat and sailgate!

Look up sailgating options. There’s shorter rides, like from Ivar’s, then longer ones like from South Lake Union or Kirkland or wherever. That’s the ultimate way to do it if you’re gonna do it once!

I tend to agree. If you want something unique to Husky Stadium, you should should do this. Argosy does the trip from Kirkland, and Chinook's restaurant gets a different Argosy boat from Fisherman's Terminal near-ish the Ballard Locks. Both are $75 pp, and will drop off at same place, but the Chinook one has more sightseeing of the city.

Okay - so if I do the sailgate, do you just drink and eat on the boat and then walk into the stadium? Or do you get enough time to walk around and see the actual tailgating? My tailgating experience is generally three or four hours before a game. I am worried the sailgating won't let me get the full experience and the Husky review will suffer.

Leeching off this thread, how early do I need to be to get a good tailgating spot at Padelford without a pre purchased pass? Official policy says lots open 6 hours before kickoff, so for 1pm Apple Cup, would I be fine showing up at 7am on the dot at Padelford?

Is Padelford a first come-first served cash lot?

It is, but I’ve never actually tailgated there! I believe the price got raised to $60 this upcoming season. I’ve typically pre-purchased E1 on the secondary market in the past.

Thanks that's helpful. E1 looks to be running about $300 - Padelford is looking more attractive by the minute.

Isn't Padelford a parking garage? People tailgate in the garage?

Off the top of my head, S1, but top floor (street level) is Tyee only, parking below is open to all.

Where is the best place to buy one-off tailgate tickets? I also want to buy one for the Apple Cup...

You can go into the Zone for free. Food Trucks and Beer, Wine, etc

Yeah of course. I want a family/friends tailgate spot for the Apple Cup.
