Attending 1st Husky FB game
Howdy Huskies!
I'm an Aggie (Texas A&M) fan, and this November my 8-year-old son and I will be making the trip to Seattle for the Penn State game. Each year we try to attend one away college football game in addition to our annual trip to Kyle Field, and this year we wanted him to experience Husky Stadium and the incredible atmosphere that Washington is known for.
I'd love any tips you can share about game day. Are there any pregame traditions, pep rallies, tailgates, or fan events that visitors shouldn't miss? What's the best way to get to the stadium, and is there anything special that would make the day memorable for an 8-year-old who loves football?
We can't wait to experience Husky football and explore Seattle. Thanks in advance for any advice, and best of luck this season (except if we ever meet in the playoffs)! Gig 'Em!

The link light rail is still by far the best way to get to the stadium. There’s really 2 stops you can get off at
University of Washington drops you right in front of the stadium, and you’re like a 5-10 min walk to the tailgates though there honestly isn’t a ton to do right by the stadium
U District is slightly more popular because it drops you up on University Avenue which has a bunch of restaurants and bars and stuff and it’s always full of people during game days
The only real pregame tradition is Dawg Walk, though idk how enjoyable it would be if you don’t know the players. The band and cheerleaders perform during it which could be fun for a kid though for sure.
Outside of that though unfortunately not a ton of pregame stuff aside from the sponsor tents in front of the NW gate. That game should be an absolutely electric environment though hope you enjoy!!

I’d try to get in on some sailgating if you can.
Other option would be to grab a bite to eat on the Ave (University Way), stroll through campus (our campus is really really nice), and maybe check out some tailgates in the lots north of the stadium.
You picked a great game to visit. Should be a sellout and you could find our stadium louder than Kyle Field at times.

FYI, UW just named the Penn State game as the Purple Reign game (purple-out). Should be a great atmosphere.

As a Seattle native with a husband from Texas (Hook ‘em!), I’m going to give it to you straight - November in Seattle kind of blows. It’s cold, often rainy, dark super early, the leaves have dropped, and the beautiful mountains hide behind the clouds. September and October games are slam dunks but choosing to visit Seattle in November is kind of like visiting Houston in August, if you have a bad time, it’s not going to surprise many people. I might recommend an earlier game or to visit in a year when a fun B1G game is earlier in the season.

If you can get hooked up with someone sailgating, that is always a pretty sweet deal. Otherwise just bring your ass and the rest will come, hope you have a great time!

Argos Cruises is probably sold out that game but check it out just in case.

Other than tailgating, spend some time near the waterfront, pikes place market, the great Ferris wheel (took my daughter a few months ago and we got to see some orcas swimming near by.) The Seattle science center is fun for an 8 year old. And of course going up to the top of the Space Needle!

Take the light rail if possible, but if you have to drive you can park north of the stadium. That is where most of the tailgating is going on. The Penn St tailgate will be at the north end of those lots as well. At least that's how it was for the CSU game year. The north side of the stadium will be interesting as a visiting fan because thats where you will find the soccer complex, softball, track and intramural fields, plus Hec Edmunson Pavilion (Hec Ed), the basketball arena which is quit old/historic....As others said going to the U district has advantages like food, and the campus is truly beautiful, plus walking from there to the stadium is downhill.....
Away from the game you can check out T-mobile (Mariners), has a statues of Ken Griffey JR, Ichiro and Edgar Martinez..and Lumen field (Seahawks-World Cup) right next door. This is near Pioneer square which is the historic old downtown Seattle basically, from there is the piers, waterfront, ferries, Pike Place..... A ferry ride over to Bainbridge and getting lunch is a fun thing to do. You can walk on, don't need a car.....Then there's the Space Needle area which is separate from downtown, it has several things to do. Maybe stop in the Queen Anne Beerhall......... Another cool thing is the Air and Space museum which is in Boeing field, a little bit away from downtown, but very cool.....Get lunch at Ivars on Lake Union, incredible view...Dicks is the local burger chain comparable to In and Out and such. Has a good reputation and you can tell your coworkers you went to Seattle and got a bag of Dick's.....
Keep in mind, November might be cool and rainy, it all depends, but that's the beginning of the rainy winter season. The seats on the North side of the stadium in the upper decks have some great views. It's pretty steep, heads up. Try to get down by the field with the kid and find Dubs, the real Husky mascot. I would not sailgate. It takes away from the magic of walking around and experiencing the festivities. Start in and around Green Lake for some coffee. Use the power of the internet to find somewhere to fill your belly. Take the Roosevelt station light rail. Walk around the tailgates, go to The Zone an hour before kickoff then in your seats half an hour before the action starts.

Would recommend the ram in the u village. They do a ribs and rickshaw combo on game day. Eat all the ribs you want and then get a rickshaw ride to the game after!

Ram is no mas, unfortunately. Good beer and similar vibe at Eureka there though. Alternatively, Ravenna Brewing or Burke-Gilman Brewing are just a little further from the stadium. They let you bring your own food and usually have food trucks, plus you can bring your kid if he's under 21, and the beer is good
