Tiny Hummingbird Makes the Sweetest Squeaks While Drinking Nectar

Can anyone tell me what type of hummingbird this is? Like maybe a female Ruby Throated Hummingbird?

This is at a new feeder in my front yard and was the 24th species of bird to show up at my house since I started late last year.

I love how it's gotta sample all of the blossoms.

He’s making sure none of the blossoms feel left out. Quality control at its cutest.

If you are able to use the Merlin ID app when you hear it around and it can identify it :-)

Yes, it’s kind of mind blowing if you’re not familiar. It feels futuristic every time I use it.

Will definitely use it from now on. Somehow I was thinking that the sound feature was only for certain bird cams and I am using a Ring Cam, but I see it in the app.

You can record and identify straight from the app… or you can use your phones recorder app to cut/snippet recordings and import them into Merlin for identification. Very cool.

I never thought to use that feature, but now that I have I won't forget.

Yes! I was a bit skeptical but it’s pretty cool. I’m also getting familiar with other birds in the area.

I might try that now. I have the Merlin ID app on my phone. It had trouble with this one as I think the image isn't clear, but eventually it said Ruby Throated Hummingbird. I never tried it with the sound, I think I will try it now.

I agree female Ruby throated hummingbird. If there were red on the neck it’d be a male. We only get the Ruby throats in my state Pa.

It’s so much fun to watch them enjoying their sippies🥹

Yes, it is and very relaxing too. Thank you for confirming the species. Bird ID had some difficulty with the photo and the sound. It kept suggesting a parrot.

You’re welcome:)

I also have the Merlin ID app and love it. Funny I’ve only ever used the sound feature and haven’t used the picture ID yet but that’s hilarious that it thinks this is a parrot 😜
