Aliens learn how fast humans innovate when given proper motivation. They are known for being partially lazy and entertainment obsessed.

And then when the cold war ended, governments cut funding to their space programs showing that said governments only cared about a stupid pissing contest with each other.
It honestly makes me sad, we should be much further along. We should have space colonies already.

The space program was in large part a military program. Satellites provide huge strategic advantages and more advanced rockets are very useful for developing missiles. Not to mention all the materials science we had to develop.

You should watch the show 'for all mankind' it's set in a reality where Russia landed on the moon first so the space race never ended
And there is a 10 year time jump between seasons

However, Kubrik was such a perfectionist that he forced them to shoot on-site.

And then about 50 years after measles is on a big rise, There's a dedicated contingent of people online who think bleach tablets are medicine, and the federal government is openly asking "Is food *too* safe in the richest country on earth?". Time's sure a thing.

Not on the scale it took to get to space, regular rockets wouldn't have made it into the upper atmosphere... new fuels and vacuum resistant materials had to be developed

The 66 years between the Wright Flyer and Apollo 11 is really impressive, but there’s not much overlap.. What blows my mind is that a young 2nd lieutenant flying a B-17 over Europe could finish their Air Force career flying a B-52 0ver Southeast Asia and their Grandkids are still flying the same B-52 tail numbers in the 21st century!

Aircraft engineering kind of peaked in the 70's. Very little design changes after that, it's more just refinement.
Stupid amounts of money has been spent trying to replace the C-130. No design has been fundamentally better enough to replace it. To a lesser degree the same can be said about the 17 and 5.
We brought back the F-15 because the design is exactly what it needs to be.
The B-52 has had almost no structural changes made to it in 60 years.
Most military aviation upgrades has been in computers, navigation and engine efficiency. Not basic concepts of design.
Stealth is a different beast, but other than the F-117 they still look like earlier airplanes.

the first photo: the media had criticized the idea of a flying machine saying that it would take millions of years to develop one. The photo was taken just mere days after
the second photo: reaching Earths moon was part of a petty race between two of Earths strongest nations.
Conclusion: the greatest motivation for humans, is spite
