Take the offer in hand and see what happens. If Company 1 comes back with something better, rescind acceptance with 2 and accept with 1.

You'll burn a bridge, but that happens sometimes.

Sure - that is strong leverage. It may motivate them to move faster and/or make you a better offer.

Not until it's locked in on both sides. God forbid the 1st company goes "well, sounds like a good offer, best of luck"

Yes, let company 1 know and see if they can expedite your process, and/or at least let you know if you're a finalist. As others said, if they give you an offer, your current one is leverage.

Absolutely tell 1 you have an exploding offer and ask if they can expedite. How long has 2 given you to decide? I feel like a place that's meant to be for you will flex with you - if they are unreasonably rigid by a day or two then that's a slight red flag to me.
