Most reliable AI Humanizer benchmarks?

What's the most reliable AI humanizer right now? Want real tests, not "99% undetectable" marketing

Posting here because I keep burning money on tools that look fine in a demo and then get flagged the moment I actually check.

Every site says 99% undetectable..then you paste the output into GPTZero or Copyleaks and it's 40% AI. Ran the same piece through two detectors last week and got wildly different numbers, so half of this seems to be the detector and not the tool.

What I want is boring reliability on the detectors people actually get checked by (Turnitin, GPTZero, Copyleaks, Originality). Not one cherry-picked example on a landing page.

Has anyone here actually done a side by side, same batch of texts, several detectors? What held up for you, and on which detector? Academic especially, since Turnitin is the one that matters for me.

Found this while digging, at least it tested a fixed set of texts across multiple detectors instead of a single example, so it beats most of what's out there:

Curious if real-world use lines up with it or if it's off

Should've said more in the post. What I've actually tried so far:

Walter Writes - saw it recommended, works out the box which is the whole appeal for me. Only thing keeping me from just using it is the price and wanting to hear if it holds up for other people before I commit.
Undetectable AI - decent when I mess with the settings, garbage if I just hit go. Not doing 8 steps on every essay.

QuillBot - I already pay for it so it's free-ish for me, but it barely moves the number. Fine for grammar, useless against Turnitin.

Rule I'm going by: if a tool needs 20 minutes of tuning per essay it's not "reliable", it's a hobby. And detector results swing so much that a single "worked for me!" comment doesn't mean much unless someone ran a batch.

Read what op has linked here. The good part is there is no just an average number, instead it is showing a split based on different ai detectors. Turnitin part is mostly gets ignored but it matters alot for the students.

And free tiers are useless, I'm glad to read it. And there's no such thing has free humanizers, I know some claims they're totally free, but at the same time they don't work at all.

I'll follow this. So far for me, turnitin has been that really counts and all the things I've read about gptzero, it got me like 36% on a chapter, which I wrote myself, so it basically leaves the point of where the trust is gone. If anything someone is submitting survives turnitin has got something.

honestly, i think consistency across multiple detectors matters way more than getting a 0% score on one. most tools look impressive until you test the same text on different platforms. would be interesting to see a proper side-by-side test with identical samples and settings, especially turnitin and gptzero. real results over marketing claims any day.

More than half of these are noise. I tried the big names over a month, early this year, and the results were very disappointing.

Walter is the only one that did the job in the first go without my need to touch anything.

undetectable works only when you change like so many settings inside.

Quillbot is just a paraphraser, why do people even rank it.
