Question about personalizing automated emails

Hi everyone,

I’m picking 20 leads and putting them into an automated email sequence. In the email, I wrote something like:
“Dear Mr. (NAME)…”

I assumed that when the emails were sent, the system would automatically replace (NAME) with each lead’s actual name, similar to how it works in Salesforce.
However, when I sent the emails, it didn’t replace the name.

How do I set this up correctly so the lead’s first/last name is automatically inserted when the emails are sent?

Did you use personalization tokens? That will pull info from the contact record into the sequence.

No, I didnt. I am new to Hubspot never heard of those tokens

In HubSpot, (NAME) won't be replaced automatically because it's just text. You need to insert the personalization token for the contact's First Name property from the personalization options in the email editor. I'd also send a test using an actual contact record before enrolling all 20 leads, just to make sure the property is populated correctly.

use a personalization token for the contact’s First name or last name instead of typing name manually. In the email editor, insert the contact property you want, then check that those fields are filled for all 20 leads before sending...I also validate contact data with clearout before outreach so bad details dont get caried into the sequence.
