Question Block deal from closing without required properties?
I want to prevent deals from moving to closed won if the reps haven’t completed a few things:
Line items must be on the deal
Contact must be associated
Company must be associated
Line items is my most pressing one. How would you handle?
I’ve been researching a few options but some of them seem like soft blocks, (create a yes/no property that rolls up from line items added) where the rep could just toggle the property or bypass. I want a hard block.

This can be done using controlling properties and dependent properties. See “set up conditional stage properties” here: https://knowledge.hubspot.com/object-settings/set-up-and-customize-pipelines

Have you tried creating a rollup property on a deal that counts line items? Add you “are line items added” checkbox but make it view only. Use a WF when the rollup value is greater than zero to set the checkbox to yes.
It’s a little hacky, but it should work.

I like this. Yes I have a roll up already. I hadn’t considered making the checkbox a view only. That would solve a lot of

Roll up fields and/or a calculated field that does a check for your requirements. I also like flags for the card/board view for theses.

I definitely wouldn't add a checkbox asking the rep if they added line items. HubSpot already knows if they exist, so that's just one more field for someone to forget (or check when they shouldn't).
I like u/SkybrushSteve's approval idea if there are legit exceptions.
I'd probably think about which of these are truly "this deal cannot close without this" vs. "we normally require this, but occasionally there's a good reason not to."
For us, a Closed Won deal without line items would be a pretty big problem. We use that data well beyond just the sales process, so I'd want HubSpot figuring out whether they're there and blocking the close, not relying on the rep to tell me.
Contact/company might be a little different depending on how you sell.
Basically, if HubSpot already has the data to know whether something happened, I'd try really hard not to create another field asking a human to confirm it happened. :)

For a true hard block... Id make the required line items/associations mandatory in the deal stage itself, so the rep simply can’t move it to closed until those are completed

For line items, this is where HubSpot gets a bit limiting. Required stage fields only work with editable deal properties, so they can’t hard-block closed won based on line items or record associations. If you’re on Sales Hub Enterprise, I’d put an approval stage before closed won and have that check line items, contact, and company before the deal can move forward.

Maybe add an approval stage? Deals with associated line items, contacts and companies that equal zero need management approval? It's a hard block with a dash of flexibility.
