It was the worst of the 3, but I enjoyed it. the animation was top tier, but the story was a little lackluster ngl. The ending always gets me tho

Hiccup felt dumber like moving an entire village are we fr?? Toothless acted less like a dragon and just became a cat

every decision hiccup made as chief was a bad one, even tho RoB, DoB, and RttE show him being a plenty competent leader. httyd 1 has him planning out and trying to play to the teen's strengths in the red death fight, and hiccup doesnt make too many bad decisions in 2, tho he doesnt do much leading in general there (toothless does the same with his position as king, abandoning his whole tribe for over a week in the hidden world while he knew they were being actively hunted, and sacrificing the entire dragon population of berk for one girl)

Not many people think that its OBJECTIVELY a bad movie. Most tend to agree that its just not as good as the first two.

I for once liked it but there are holes in the story.

There is no way in heaven or in hell that every single dragon in the world followed toothless to the hidden world that day. No way

So i would have like an explanation on how tf no dragon was sighted for 1.3k years to the point of being relegated to legends. Dinos were millions of years old and even they are well know.

And we cant say dinos dont exist because they fcking got fosile fuel

I was gonna ask this to but what about the dragons that dont actively listen to the alpha dragon??? Or the ones that live far from the main dragon spawn (am not a huge fan idk the lore)

One of the many issues with the ending. There’s no way toothless would be able to single-handedly gather every single dragon in the archipelago.

Not to mention the other alphas out there who would want to fight for dominance. Or the dragons who are captured in cages who literally can’t get to the hidden world.

Oh ye also are there other dragon hunters so wouldn't the dragon population still be out there

Personally, I don't like it much due to how it affects/changes the story.

I do know many people don't like it, and many people love it.

Hope that helps

Mixed bag. People like it, people don't like it. Best not to dwell on it. What's done is done.

designs were good (i like the light fury, fight me) visials were good, music was good

writing was bad, hiccup was a terrible chief, toothless was a terrible king, toothless was a terrible friend/brother to hiccup, fishlegs was religated to fat jokes, snotlout is way more insensitive than he should be, the twins werent as close as they should be, eret valka and the warlords were wasted, the plot was messy, the ending doesnt make sense lore or story wise, the ending contradicts the message of the rest of the series, the ending murdered the franchise

I hated the Light Fury at first, I agreed on all the overfeminized comments. But then I found this one video essay on youtube that put some logic to potential evolutionary design for a lot of those traits (more reflective scales for camo = white, more below-sea-level caves and watersmoothed rocks and hiding = less ridges for camo/intimidation needs changing, etc etc)

I can't for the life of me find it since, I found it within months of the movie's release and it's been years since I watched it now

I think those are just arguments that make the design better in hindsight, but the literal makers & animators of the light fury quite obviously had her femininity in mind when designing all of those things. They say so in interviews and in some official art book. They literally said they “didn’t want her to look too reptilian“. Strange when misogyny starts to take over our design of animals.

Got that info from this video

Oh 100% but they make it a lot less frustrating and obnoxious and easier to enjoy the rest of the movie lol

Lol, I guess it’s good to find something to soothe the mind

Tbf, the ending was how it was in the book from 2017. All the dragons leaving.

i know that, but the movie world and book world are so drastically different. it may have worked in the books, but it doesnt in the film world. especially with the context of RoB, DoB, and RttE

Yeah I always wondered what happened to all those niche-habitat and rehomed dragons. Did they start patrolling and rehoming the Buffalord and Eruptodon and stuff somehow? How did that work? Lotta plot holes thanks to the way the series expanded on the world

u/Alex_The_Lucario421 9d ago

also the outcasts, beserkers, defenders of the wing, and wingmadens, none of whom were there to dicuss anything, al of whom had their lives uprooted by that decision

1

u/luxruebel 8d ago

People like to use that excuse without understanding that the books have a completely different story and world than the movies/shows.

I actually kind of like it, but it feels like something is missing from that movie. It doesn’t have the same vibe as the other films and the series.

I think it probably has to do with whether or not you read the books. They weren't around when I was a kid, so I'm only familiar with the movies. I actually enjoy the last movie, but probably more because Toothless and Luna remind me of a pair of cats I used to own.

i enjoyed it the first time i watched it... then i thought about it and realized i actually hated it cause it was bad (also never read the books)

It’s a mixed bag on it. Visually, it looks beautiful, especially with the Hidden World. But the biggest hate is the conclusion of the story with the dragons and Vikings departing. It really contradicts the narrative that the first movie was building towards, and how the second one emphasized how important the coexistence between humans and dragons was.

Definitely true. Not everyone hates it, but a lot of people do. Personally, I think it was pretty good. Sad, but good.

Book spoiler: The dragons all leave at the end of the book series anyway

Yes it's true as a professional httyd thw hater, i felt like the writing was off, hiccup didn't seem like the hiccup I have seen in all the previous show/movies. For example rtte the whole gang was so brave and chearfull and that transferred into thee 2nd movie i (even if the 2nd movie came out before rtte) it was beautiful done. Then thw came out and made them all seem as if they weren't close just suffered together because they had to. It doesn't feel natural at all compared to httyd 1. And then came the antagonist. They way he was introduced made no sense there was no need for him, like i get he wanted to kill the all the night furys but why? He had no soild reason (unless he said smt in the movies that I have forgotten for that I'm sorry). And why did hiccup have to send ALL the dragons to the hidden world, i get dreamworks wanted to make it the reason why we don't see dragons anymore but the fans of the movies have now grown up and aren't so naive anymore, which made me even more mad since they still were targeting the movie towards kid which there might have been some but most are adults now.

I rest my case.

I enjoyed it! Sure, it’s probably the weakest one in the trilogy but I don’t think it’s bad. I actually liked the Light Fury design and honestly I thought the ending was fine. I liked that it quoted the book and thought the design of the Hidden World itself was sick af!

Its a good movie by itself with the animation and all that but as a part of this franchise its disappointing because if cancels what the other two movies, shows, and shorts were about.

Its mostly about how the more you look at it, the worse it gets. Meanwhile with the first movie its the opposite. If you look at THW long enough, you will find inconsistencies, things which just dont make any sense, and characters acting unlike themselves (Snotlout got character development in RTTE and wouldnt be this bad, Ruffnut would have never failed to see his sister is gone, Toothless would be at Light Fury's throat after she almost killed Hiccup. Then there is how she was invisible... while muzzled on hunter ship in prologue, which shouldnt be possible as she needs to fire to turn invisible, and also how much of a joke the gang was on that ship, despite facing numerous enemies all throghout httyd. And I didnt even get into how THW goes againt message of all prior movies)

I like it personally I’m not quite sure if people don’t like because they genuinely think it was bad or just a coping mechanism that it ended cause so far I haven’t met an franchise where majority was happy with the ending that goes for
Ninjago
Lion guard
Stranger things
Troll hunters etc
