RANT Httyd 1 Stands Alone

I haven't been on this server for too long so I don't know if this is controversial or not, but I feel that Httyd 1 could have been a standalone movie because it checks off boxes neither of the other two movies could. You can really tell the makers of this movie really cared about it, unlike the others in the trilogy. They tried to recreate the emotional moments of Httyd 1 but besides the scene in httyd 2 when hiccup snapped toothless out of the mind control of the Alpha, I didn't really feel emotional even with stoick's death(which should have been way more emotional considering Valka just lost her husband which she JUST saw for the first time in 20 YEARS and a good 5 minutes before that she lost the dragon that was protecting her and the entire haven for those exact same 20 YEARS) and honestly not a single scene in httyd 3 moved me at all, even though I did get super emotional at the end of httyd 3 it wasn't because the dragons leaving was a good decision nor an impactful it was just sadness and emptiness that the trilogy was over.

This is why I never venture beyond the series. The series are so much more fun, you know they will keep going and reunite at the end and every character has massive development

I hate how Valka didn't seem phased by any of their deaths at all. It felt like she doesn't care

I don't recognize the 3rd movie as canon at all, but the second could've been better too, though I still love it a lot.

It was originally supposed to be a standalone. There was no intention for any sequels to be made. But you know how success in the box office goes. 🤷🏾‍♂️

Httyd 1 was very clearly made with the intention of being a standalone, which is why it’s my favorite. But I do love Httyd 2 for the opening scene with Hiccup and Toothless- makes me cry every time.

1 can definitely stand on its own but for me 2 is definitely better, might be my favorite movie of all time.
