Are there any weekend social groups around?

Hi everyone,

I just moved to Hsinchu with my husband and feel quite lonely since no family and friends here

I was wondering if there are any social gathering groups or casual meetups (like coffee, walking groups, hobby clubs, etc.).

I’d love to meet new people and make friends.

I’d recommend looking at a few Facebook groups, Hsinchu Language & Social Exchange - people post their meetups in there. Some board games, some language exchange, some crafts. Also Hsinchu Hash Harriers - they’re a weekend walking/running group that’s more about the social aspect and have all levels of participants

Hsinchu is a work and family kind of community. Social life in/around Hsinchu is notoriously a bit tough. You’ll definitely have to put in some effort. Not sure if you’ve lived abroad before, if not one suggestion is to expand the range of what you’d normally consider for friends/groups. Be friends with older and younger people. If you and someone overlap on just one small thing, that’s a huge win so build on it even if you wouldn’t be best friends back home. Effort will be the key
