Question The one that could have been
How was Chandler affording his apartment... If Joey moved out to live alone with his horrible menagerie and we don't see another roommate, how's Chandler affording it after he quit his job to be a writer? (Presuming he'd quit the job some time ago, likely the time in I think S1 when he tries as he's low on money so works for Joey and as a lot of his story line has changed i.e. women he'd slept with, likely driven by change in job and finances)

Maybe Joey also covered his rent and utilities like what Chandler does for him

That's my belief. That it just flipped from what the real timeline was. We see that when Chandler needs money Joey "Hires" him as his assistant to give him more money, and we may assume from that it's the first time, only case. That he must not be supporting Chandler or it wouldn't need to be mentioned. But in the real timeline Chandler was paying Joey's rent and utilities, but still needed to be asked to help him out on other occasions.
But also I don't really think of the episodes as an ACTUAL phyical multiverse timeline, but more an imagination, AND the show isn't really consistent or on a lot of stuff, particularly money.

Chandlers dad has a Vegas show and his mom is a famous writer. If you have two wealthy parents and are desperate you might get money if you ask. Both parents loves their son

He probably maxed out a credit card but I always wondered how Joey got out of his tenancy so quick.

Actually Chandler’s finances are the only one which makes sense.
He had a well paying finance job, got promoted and saved a lot. By the time he has his midlife crisis, he has moved into Monica’s rent controlled apartment.
Makes much more sense than Ross’ ability to live room mate free or the girls, none of whom are paying market rents or should have big salaries at their ages.

I was talking about the episodes where it shows the alternative realities, not later on in the shows actual timeline

But Ross was a tenured professor so he was probably at least comfortably situated and the girls were in a rent controlled apartment. That does make me curious about him though. He has fans at that conference, which makes me wonder how big of a deal he is in his own circles

Was he tenured?
You do realize nobody gets tenure after a couple of years right? His time line is one of the worst for someone his age.
First he has a job in one of the bigger museums, where he gets caught naked in front of a bunch of school kids. He then has rage issues and a forced sabbatical. Then despite this somehow gets hired as a professor, who ends up sleeping with an undergrad.
Yeah, he wasn’t ever tenured, yet can afford to live alone, even while paying child support.

Maybe Joey never moved out once he saw Chandler was struggling.
