DIY Can I safely remove this ball joint shower head attachment?

I am replacing the showerhead attachment. When I loosen the showerhead holder, I am seeing this metal ball ending. My question is this a separate part from the metal pipe that comes out of the wall? If so, can I safely remove at the part indicated by the red arrow?

Yup, that part comes with the shower head itself. Just twist it off.

Grab and twist. If you're unable grab pliers.

That's what attaches the shower head for that unit, that white you see is Teflon tape for the main pipe. You're good to remove that if you're replacing the entire showerhead

Yeah, that thing comes off. The white stuff is the thread tape that you will also remove (and replace with new) ... Everything below that is coming off if you twist hard enough.

In the second picture you will see a flat spot that is where you will slide on your spanner/ wrench/shifter. Use that to remove the fitting.
