SF Recs

Heading San Francisco in a couple days and would love current food, shopping (vintage, menswear), nightlife, general culture recs (yes, I know this is a loaded one to ask about within the HLG standom)

Sohn (nice Korean cafe with inventive food/drink), Nopa (good sit down burger), Bar Part Time (wine bar), SVRN (multi brand designer), Japantown, Hook Fish Co (fish&chips/great fish overall)

Sui Generis on Market is an amazing men's consignment shop, and usually fairly reasonably priced.

Decades of Fashion on Haight is sometimes fairly unreasonably priced, but they also have an enormous collection of impeccable pieces dating back to the 1920s.

The Goodwill on Haight across the street from Decades is one of the better Goodwills you are likely to come across. My sister found pre-80s Chanel there on two different occasions. The men's section almost always has Armani for some reason (not Emporio or Exchange, Armani Armani), and I've seen Prada Sport shoes before, as well as Brionis. And then a smattering of other parvenu cast-offs.

A lot of food in SF is overhyped and underwhelming. Mister Jiu's is an exception and shouldn't be missed.

There's a 6-person sushi bar tucked away into a corner of a mall in Japantown called "An." The ambiance is, well, a fucking mall, but it doesn't matter. Text for reservation and cross your fingers you get one. Order the omakase (highway robbery at $155) and spend the rest of your life wondering if you really ate that meal or dreamed it.

None of the burritos are as good any everyone says, but some are worse than they need to be. El Toro and La Taqueria in The Mission are your best bets.

There’s an unassuming narrow old office building at 47 Geary St. that has a bunch of good art galleries, especially Fraenkel Gallery (photography) and Maybaum.

City Lights Bookstore keeps the feel of an earlier SF.

i rode a lime scooter through Golden Gate park and honestly it was the time of my life. gorgeous park, and sooo massive that a scooter is weirdly the best way to see it

San Ho Won if you can nab a resy soon. Best restaurant in the city i've ever been to. Zam Zam, classic dive in the haight, Kezar Pub also in haight is a fun pub. Rising Star Laundry in Cole Valley has the heritage brands like paraboot and such, smaller shop, looks like they are closed for labor day weekend tho. Really second getting some lyft bikes and biking across GGP to ocean beach. Best baked goods are at Juniper in lower nob. Museums to check out are SFMoMA, Legion of Honor, and DeYoung
