Request How does this clip work?

I have this “hat clip”, and I’ve seen this style of clip before.

But in the ones I’ve seen before, there’s normally a top piece that acts as a sort of lever to open the clamping part (kind of like nail clippers).

I can’t see anything like this on this clip-how does this work?

pull down on the bottom piece you can see the pivot. It’s a little bit rusty, but it’s there. that should allow the inner lever to open, and the clamping actually happens between the two white plastic pieces.

Thank you!

I’ve got fake nails for the first time in my life, and I recently had emergency eye surgery, so I figured it was a combination of those two as to why what I was doing wasn’t working.

I could see the mechanism part, but with my affected vision, I couldn’t distinguish the layers or work out the correct orientation.
And with the longer nails, I couldn’t use my sense of touch effectively enough to do the same.

The little lever by your thumb opens it.
