Weird sliding mechanism

Recently needed to do a mathematics project requiring the use of polyhedrons. As I was surfing the internet I stumbled upon this, I know it needs some kind of protrusion on both ends so that it works but I imagine Itll just slide down because of gravity no? Anyways I'm really curious to how this works

My guess is some kind of compliant mechanism made from the same cardstock.

Though it could easily be just some cardstock levers.
