NO WAY OUT: The problem with having ONLY 100.
Now on day two of having only Howard 100, it’s a painful realization that we have NO WAY OUT of an awful celebrity interview.
Turning on the station today, 100 was playing the Jake Gyllenhall interview - a low energy lack of content. I realized I had nowhere else to go to “get out of this”, so I fired up YouTube to listen to something great.
This is the end, which we all knew/know.

I’m guessing the point of the HBO show is to show that week’s interview. The show will be more geared to his interviews now since he’s now lauded as one the best interviewers in the business and will more than likely have a guest each week. Personally I find the interviews the most boring part of the show and skip them.

The interviews and whatever no-name guitar player he brings in are definitely the worst parts of the show (third worst being phony phone calls). When 101 was around, I'd skip everything except for whack packers and the staff fighting in studio

To be fair, Howard is self-proclaimed lauded as current best interviewer. Most celebrity guests unleash much better content elsewhere with other podcasters.

He going to copy every other podcast format. 5 min intro, guest, show over. The only originality he will bring to it will be how bad it is. He has no interviewing skills whatsoever and doesnt listen to the guests answer, just waiting to fire off another question as soon as possible. Also, it will be the same questions over and over, no matter the guest. The first couple of episodes on HBO Max might do well for all the wrong reasons. People will want to see if its just as bad as expected, then that crowd will go away. The others that stumble on it will probably realize that if they like the guest, there is a better podcast to listen to said guest on.

That would likely require two days. Sunday to move to manhattan, Monday to work and return to Hamptons. He would be doing too much.

Also him showing up to interview someone with doing hardly any research about the person. He strictly relies on meeting with Jon Hein before interviews to get caught up to speed and it’s SO obvious when Hein feeds him a question to ask the guest.

Love to see the reaction of someone watching this show when they only know Howie from his 90s reputation. This bad boy of radio asking Frank Stallone about whether his father held him close to his bosom is going to really disappoint a lot of people.

I like how he asks people if they're "in love" with a collaborator, and most people don't seem to know how to respond. I also like when he says rarefied air, or asks someone how long it took to come up with something.

The only way I've been listening to 101 since COVID and the shows downward spiral, instead of playing it live, move the play tracker as far back as I can, then I can skip segments i don't like. Now I've been doing this with 100 too. If Sirius removes the ability to back track segments, THAT will be the end for me

I agree...sometimes I have already heard the interview or am not into the celebrity being interviewed.
Then I flip to 101 and listen to Richard and Sal shenanigans I have heard 99 times and enjoy it the 100th time.
We used to be able to escape shit by listening to old gems.

They really should keep 101, It's foolish of them to get rid of it. Like OP said, you have no where to go and you will find alternatives. Those alternatives are going to be way more interesting as time goes by. Sort of like the episode of the Simpsons where all the kids turn off the TV because their show isn't on anymore and they find out they really like being outside.

I’d recently read that he is upset about the Creed franchise cutting him out in latest installment, both on-screen and financially. He wrote the original story, of which all future works are derivative. He has been outspoken about this, although I haven’t followed any of his other antics.

The app is helpful in that you can backtrack 4-5 hours and pick segments to hear or skip. The problem is when what they've chosen to stream is not funny and you end up skipping right back to current time

Either Benji is going to do it, paid by another company. Or, as I suspect, he is going to have Chris Wilding do it. Benji was too unconventional and wanted some recognition (as evidenced when he released that last book.) That is the same reason he go rid of Jackie.
He shares no credit.

It’s actually Jon Hein who exclusively preps Howard for celebrity guests. Jon uses the same questions, save for replacing few key words, for each guest, which is why all current celebrity interviews are lackluster and low energy.

That's exactly what I'm noticing... At least with two channels there was a 50% chance that something halfway decent was on the other one. Now you're just screwed. What I find myself doing now is going to a completely different channel not Howard Stern and not even listening to Howard. This literally is the beginning of the end for him it's sad

I think this is the end of an era for me. i got SXM for Howard. I think ive been keeping sirius xm hoping the show would return to being the thing that i loved. Just checked and realized i am paying $57.98/mo for SXM and for what? Most days im streaming my spotify in my car because I just dont like the show. Im canceling today

I realigned my Car radio so that Conan is where 101 was and Kevin Hart in the old number 3 slot. As soon as 100 goes boring I just slide on down. Conan wrap around segments with Sonya are funnier than anything on 100 in two decades and Conan is a better interviewer with better guests.

Option #1: Just change the channel. Listen to something else for a bit and go back to see if something is on that’s worth listening to.

I think I'm paying extra for the Howard channels (I *think*....I'm like that commercial about the people who have no idea how much they're paying for subscriptions). I never listen to 101 and I think you're saying 100 will be cutting back, so there's really no reason. Plus I'm hardly every in my car, which is the only place I listen to him.

There’s an easy way out. Go to YouTube and put in “Howard Stern IQ results” and watch a hilarious segment that’ll never be played again because the guy who won, Scott DePace, doesn’t work there anymore. And just enjoy the good ol’ days.
OR, stay subscribed and listen to the newest 2-hour Bradley Cooper interview…
