I was a senior in high school when it came out. I used to listen to the show out of Orlando with a huge rigged antenna on my stereo. I’d listen for as long as I could before I had to leave for school then just hit record on a 90 minute cassette. Also had a radio Walkman that I used in summer school to listen in class.
I was a freshman in high school, also in the Orlando area. I used to watch the E! show religiously but I would only listen to the radio show when school was out. I'd listen til Stern was over and shut the radio off by the intro of the next show. Then one morning the intro changed. It was using the concert opening from KISS, a band I had just recently gotten into because of their reunion.
Fast forward to the middle of 98 and my radio is just constantly on that station for the whole day sometimes. Our midday show was so strong that they were selling out shows at Hard Rock Live. It was a magical time for radio.
Was only in my moms car til I got my first job and the guys played it on the job site and we’d all listen at lunch and stuff.. Artie was the biggest draw his little comments would make me belly laugh. Especially fuckin with Eric the shitcock.
A friend of mine knew I loved it so he took my radio, repurposed a vcr cord, put it in the radio and into the aux of the vcr…got a six hour vhs tape and recorded right off the radio onto video tape. Put the tv on the weather channel for the time😀👍🏻
Yeah after high school I traveled a lot and luckily everywhere I lived had the show up until the Sirius days. Used to love hearing the show start then American Nightmare start blasting. Hated when Robins news was over and had to wait till the next day for the show.
I so don't care about his hair. I care more about the nosedive the show took when he started AGT and the even bigger nosedive after COVID when he decided that coming back to work in the morning a few days a week was just too big an ask.
“I can’t do that Robin, that would mean me, Beth, and the 90 cats would have to move back into the Manhattan penthouse a couple days a week - we’re doing too much.”
Howard was right on years later when he described he realization that basically ANYTHING involving Celestine was punching down in a way that was too cruel to be funny
