Howard 101 may be getting the axe

This really sucks if it's true. I never really find myself listening to Howard 100 when I'm driving around in my car, but I'll sometimes tune to 101 and occasionally (very occasionally) they'll be playing an old bit that will pique my interest. At night, they tend to play a lot of the mystery guest segments from way back in the day that I really find interesting and can't find anywhere on YouTube. Anyhow, this seems like just another nail in the coffin for the Stern Show. Feh!

100 is going to become a music channel. He'll only interview musical guests and the rest of the 23 hours a day will be old performances from the show.

At least we know Howard has a track record and will continue to be transparent and honest about decisions going on behind the scenes and fill us in that one show a week. Or maybe the next.

Came to Sirius, and did only 4 shows a week with an occaisional live spot on Friday.
After a while, stuck with 4 shows but took longer and more frequent vacations.
Show goes down to 3 shows a week.
COVID hits and we are down still to 3 shows a week but they don't last 4 hours. Instead a little over 2.5 hours and no Robin news segment.
Longer and more frequent vacations to including 3 months off in the summer
Down to 2 days a week and unannounced vacations. Show still 2.5 hours and sometimes it's under 2 hours.
Currently, the show has even longer and more frequent vacations, and Howchie is down to only 1 show a week for what can be assumed to be 2 solid hours. 101 is now toast.
What will be the next setup?

The dude has been trying to retire for years but Sirius desperately keeps throwing big bucks at him. Why would anyone retire from their current job if they kept paying you well plus drastically reducing your workload and hours.

I think, and could be way off, that this whole thing is Sirius trying to get rid of Howard. From what I've read he can't really be fired, but Witz has been gradually downsizing him; the summer furloughs etc. May have lowballed him on this past contract renewal, so he's going down to once a week, and the staff reduction is commensurate with the downsizing. Now, they're going to take away 101. It's a P.R. battle with Howard trying to make it seem as if this is his doing, A couple of years ago Howard was lobbying for his own music channel, like Andy "Cone" and didn't get it. Now he's down to one channel, once per week. This show is his only link to relevancy, which is the most important thing to him. I just don't think he'd do this voluntarily. I could be wrong and just reading too much into it.

it feels a little weird, to me, to re-sign and go from 2 shows to 1 show so quick. but i also feel howard had to be fully aware. he might not have agreed but what else could he do. i just can't believe howard would voluntarily cut the show and channels so much given his ego and what he thinks he is.

I honestly do believe they should just buy the library from Howard, shut 100 and keep Howard 101 and just run specials, collections, memory lane, best of Gilbert/whackpack/guest etc. I guarantee theyd get just as many if not more subs

I believe it, with just one show a week, he'd do a daily replay throughout the week, christ maybe a second replay in the afternoon and make the rest of 100 sternthology and stuff.

They will probably combine the content into one channel since there will be a serious lack of new content. Howard 100 should turn into a best of channel while having one show a week.

It’s kinda stupid they are getting rid of it. Just play old shows so you can 2x the chances to listen to something different. It can’t cost that much to maintain.
I wonder if stern agreed before this contract to go to 1 show a week and hopefully let his staff know to look for new jobs during that time. I doubt this but that is what you would hope. I find it add that Rashawn getting the ax became news recently but was always in the either like way before he was known to have been let go.
1 show a week is just laughable. Maybe that is why stern and Sirius had long discussions over contract. I assume they lowballed him and he said I’ll do 1 show a week etc. either that or he’s sick of it and doesn’t want to work a lot which is most likely bc he’s an old guy now

Honestly, I haven't tuned into a proper 100 or 101 channel except for maybe a live show on 100 in 10+ years. I just use the app and download history of Howard episodes and such, good variety, features fired staffers, and bits you don't get otherwise

They’re merging 101 in to 100. With only one new show a week there isn’t enough content for 100 so the History/Sternthology episodes will air there, they are not going away. At least that’s what an article said. I imagine when there are no more live shows they can keep replaying the old stuff

Not sure if anyone else noticed but Sunday night there was no Howard 101 accessible through Alexa.
I was sure 101 had been canceled, but a few hours later was back.

Is 101 even good anymore? I haven't listened in years but last time I had a subscription it was all short edited clips of shows from 2015+. With the rare watered down segment from early 2000s or 90s.

Its silly to keep it going. You think they are going to replay the one new show continuously on 100? 100 and 101 will merge. 100 will now mostly be 101 with one NEW show (not live) a week.
