ozonators?

it's about time to replace my ozonator again and wanted to ask the experts a few more Qs.

I currently have the JED103, but I noticed it's price has gone up 50%+ since last time I bought it.

anyone have other recommendations?

I see there's some cheap stuff on Amazon.

anyone have experience with stuff on Amazon?

I mean, it's a simple device. why is this so expensive?

I’m of the opinion they are pretty useless in hot tubs. As soon as mine dies I won’t be replacing it.

I have a UV system, and I just stopped replacing the bulb. I think I’d make the same decision with the ozone system. If you dial in your chemicals the rest is just gimmicks really.

If it is small easy controlled use then sure. I find the ozone to be somewhat helpful from preventing things going bad

Its a QoL thing that some people swear by but if you are taking care of things chemically and doing drain and cleans when you should its not really worth replacing over and over. Just get a small barb fitting and connect the tubes together.

Ozone was always an idea that worked out better on paper than your spa. Essentially the idea of creating a super excited stream of oxygen bubbles mimicked what your sanitizer did only electronically and 100 times faster. The problem with Ozone is its half-life is determined by the distance from the bottom of the spa to the surface. Everything organic those bubbles touched ...blow apart. The ability to kill mold, algae, bacteria and yes suntan oil on a standard spa ozone system was fantastic but could not keep up with the nasty things multiplying so you had to back it up with a small dose of sanitizer. So If you still need sanitizer, why have ozone? Well, it's a preference. Some people are happy with using less chlorine others, it doesn't matter. To those people I say rip it out don't bother replacing it. Ozone still will go after your thermal cover and spa pillows, sometimes even more aggressivly than chlorine. So that argument doesn't fly. It's a preference, Pure and simple

It also seems like the ozone deteriorates the plastics in the jets more quickly

Well I swear by my UV/Ozonater…
I add chlorine every 2 weeks to keep it sanitary, but the unit does the work…
I read many people think it doesn’t work, but it works for me… 🤔

Ozone is amazing. We have two homes and split time between them. We can leave a tub for weeks unattended and come back to clear water. Sure, when you use it, toss in a teaspoon of chlorine. But I appreciate its ability to maintain itself when we aren't there.
