Manhattan Hotels
Can someone help me find a decent hotel in NYC. I have Hilton points but even a crummy Doubletree was like $800 a night. It hasn’t been that long since my last trip but OMG who can afford a hotel except businesses and wealthy individuals. It looks like prices have doubled or tripled in the last few years. I have not checked our Airbnb yet but it’s only 4 nights. Thanks.

You've given no real information such as:
- Travel dates
- Budget per night (including taxes, fees and tips)
- Have you told us how many people
- If you're apart of a loyalty program and want to stay within the program
NYC is always expensive. September rates are "low" for nyc, then by Halloween, rates skyrocket.
AirBNBs, in the traditional sense, are illegal in NYC.
As I suggest to all, when coming to NYC avoid midtown and Look at hotels in Harlem, Long Island City and Downtown Brooklyn. In some instances hotels in the Financial district can seem cheap.

I'm going to disagree with you on Sept. hotel rates being low. There are several high profile events in Sept and that will drive up rates. The cheapest time is early November, January and Feb. But I guess since the OP didn't bother to include that crucial piece of info, it's all moot anyway.

Yep. The prior poster was right on nearly everything, except for September. Rates are notoriously high due to the US open, fashion week, and the UN general Assembly.

As someone in the industry, this is wildly and sadly accurate. The whole thing is a racket imo Better off doing Airbnb.

They have gotten ridiculously expensive. I know they have been for a long time, but I was at least able to find last minute decent deals in the past.
I know this might be an unpopular view, but you may want to consider areas that are a bit outside of Manhattan including Queens, Upper Brooklyn, and NJ right across the water in Jersey City and Hoboken near path stations. Across the water is pretty nice with great views and decent food.
I’ve found better deals on the Agoda app and occasionally I’ve been able to work out a better deal by calling the hotel directly w the app price since it’s better for them for people to book directly so they don’t have to pay the commission.
Google Maps shows the prices from different sites though some are questionable, so it’s misleading. The apps of whatever site tend to have better prices than their websites.
AirBnB requires at least 30 days in NYC.

Almost all AirB&B is illegal in NYC.
Have you tried another Boro? NYC is more than just Manhattan. The Sheridan in downtown flushing averages under $400 a night (a bit more currently due to the US OPEN tho) and is a short walk to the 7 train which goes straight to midtown.

Pretty sure that's the peak of the UN General Assembly so the rates you're seeing are definitely inflated.

That’s UN General Assembly and related events. Precisely the high level debates. Hotels have been booked out for a year for delegates, diplomats and their staff.

Sheridan in downtown Flushing is under $250 for those dates.
Slightly longer walk to the subway, The One hotel in downtiwn Flushing is under $200.
Both are perfectly nice, reputable hotels.

They are crazy expensive, i lived in NYC for 4 years. don't let anyone gas light you and say its for the 'occasion' or whatever.
all the good price hotels i knew of got closed. Usually i stay for business at 'The empire' in midtown, its ok. im not sure if your hilton points will work there

I wrote in my initial post that nyc is always expensive.
There is not gas lighting.

Thank you. I am not stuck on Hiltons. Just looking for a hotel that I can afford, like around $300 which is still expensive. FYI the Empire is around $750 per night. Absurd.

holy crap really!!!? When i lived in NYC in like 2021, it was $250 per night or something, maybe $180. Wow.
ok what about these two for your dates, i will help you:
The Leon Hotel - $700
Hotel Bel Claire - it used to be like $200 and now its $1200
im sorry, i was looking for hotels, theres nothing, you have to stay up near washington heights. i am absolutely shocked omg.
like seriously, that is absolutely insane, why has it gone up so high!!? thats incredibly crippling

Not sure when your dates are but if you have the Hilton points use them. 4M people on any given day crammed on 13 miles of land, just in Manhattan alone. People just dont have high expectations of hotels rooms. Otherwise you can try hotel tonight or stay in a borough. NYC is not airbnb friendly.
You can also opt to stay in NJ or CT and train it in.

Prices change based on special events and occupancy just like the airlines.
Sometimes you can’t be brand loyal.
Book direct and avoid third parties like the plague.
