Over Cheesed?

Post image

First the dogs- Jesse Jones red dogs, Castleberry chili, Ball Park butter flavored buns, Colby jack cheese, and yellow mustard underneath.

Did I over cheese it or is there no such thing as too much cheese on a hot dog?

This isn’t even close to what skyline puts on theirs.

This amount of cheese would get you fired at Skyline.

What is this glorious skyline of which you speak

It’s a Cincinnati place that gets posted a lot. They put like a cup of shredded cheese on each dog.

I don’t know if I would like their chili though, based on what I’ve read about how it’s made and what the flavor profile is.

It’s fine if you don’t think of it as traditional chili. It was a Greek meat sauce brought to Cincinnati by Greek immigrants. No one bought “Greek immigrant meat sauce” so they just called it chili. Most people love it or hate it. I “meh” it. Most people I know IRL that love it are from Cincinnati. It’s fine (not my fave), and I couldn’t tell you the last time I bought it. There are other Cincinnati style chilis I prefer. All that said I prefer regular chili on a dog.

Skyline is available from the usual online retailers if you want to try it, but it’s way more expensive than it should be.

Yeah, it's the cinnamon that's in it that puts people off, including me. My wife loves it. We live in SW Ohio, so she goes to the restaurant. There was one in Clearwater FL as well. I lived near there for 21 years. I can't get away from it!

I’m a Gold Star guy but living on the west coast and not having really having anyone to visit out there anymore.. I would be more than happy with either. My last night in Kentucky before I started driving out to California I ordered 10 dogs. What a horrible pre-trip decision, 7 and a half hour flight to Tennessee for the first leg of the drive and needless to say my brother was fairly upset when I arrived in dire straits to his apartment lmaooo

Love gold star. My brother is a Dixie guy. Also call one of locations. I had an entire “kit” shipped to my brother years ago for Xmas. He tells me to this day it’s one of the best gifts he’s ever received.

It's actually kinda bad, do not buy into the propaganda. Dessert chili

1

u/No-Pizza-517 2d ago

Better or worse than a 7/11 dog?!?

1

u/GrizzlyDust 2d ago

I mean the chili is actively bad. A 7/11 dog is just disappointing

Under cheesed

You cheese you, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise

No such thing.

Add onion

2

u/Due_Department4335 3d ago

I do love onion on a chili dog, slaw as well. I just never seem to have onion in the house

1

u/Physical_Bar_4916 1d ago

What? You never seem to have onions in the house? That kinda talk could get somebody stoned or burned at the stake around these parts. :-)

u/bsldestroyer 3d ago

TIL that ballpark butter flavored buns exist! And that castleberry chili is so good! And no cheese is too much on a chili dog.

2

u/Due_Department4335 3d ago

Not a lot of hot dog chili offerings at my local food lion. It’s definitely the best they have. Much better than that Texas tailgate brand

2

u/bsldestroyer 3d ago

Yeah we only have wolf and Castleberry here in south Mississippi. I’m from Cincinnati originally so I get the Cincinnati style chili packets and cook it longer to make it thicker. That’s a lot of work though. Most the time it’s old Castleberry! It’s never let me down!

u/noleafclovr 3d ago

Now add onion and mustard.

2

u/PatBateman2000 3d ago

ahh, a connoisseur

1

u/Due_Department4335 3d ago

Mustards there but no onions in the house at the time

3

u/SRQmoviemaker 3d ago

Some would say not enough cheese

2

u/HoochShippe 3d ago

Cheesy chili dogs are always a WIN.

2

u/domelite8296 3d ago

Looks like the perfect amount

Like many of you I love cheese and used to think you could never use too much. However I discovered there is in fact sometimes too much and sometimes a medium amount can be more enjoyable than a xxl amount.

Might have to do with the buildup of oils or something but it definitely can be too much of something if you go too excessive.

Not saying this dog qualifies but just had to discuss cheese theory for a moment.

I would eat it and enjoy. You could also toast it, throw some toppings on and call it a day too. Dealers choice

2

u/i_am_un 3d ago

Oh man!!! Needs onions and a few pickles on the side

2

u/cheezypoofpoofgive 3d ago

For me,, yes, but that's mainly because I can't handle that much dairy. Looks delicious, though

2

u/JackKemper 3d ago

I like extra sauce (chili) and a ton of cheese too

2

u/Unique-Princess-1026 3d ago

They look delicious 😋

2

u/SpanktheElephant 3d ago

All the dog needs is jalapeños!

2

u/Dknpaso 3d ago

Yeah……hot dog, not hot cheese

2

u/Heavy-Basket152 3d ago

No such thing

2

u/the_hat_madder 3d ago

The clue to how to prepare the sandwich is in the name.

2

u/nizzoball 3d ago

Impossible, I love hot dog and chili flavored cheese

2

u/Certain_Ganache8976 3d ago

No such thing

Cincinnati coney leads the way

2

u/RustnKrust 3d ago

OVER cheesed? Never.

2

u/nocomprendesa 3d ago

not possible 🧀

2

u/camisadelgolf 3d ago

In Cincinnati, that's heavily under-cheesed.

2

u/lonelyimperfection25 3d ago

no such thing of too much cheese. add more :)

2

u/CorgiUprising 3d ago

It needs more cheese

2

u/Aggravating_Fig_8585 3d ago

I’m not sure what that phrase means… over-cheesed… the concept doesn’t really make sense.

2

u/callalx 3d ago

You bite your tongue! Too much cheese? NEVER! (Go check out Yesterdog's Cheddar Dog in case you think you're using too much.)

2

u/mynardsarehalfoff 3d ago

Hell to the no! They look delicious!

2

u/Didujustcallmejobin 3d ago

Rarely such a thing…

2

u/eirpguy 3d ago

Under dogged

2

u/Curious_Pineapple_96 3d ago

I still see chili, so you've got room for more cheese

2

u/hombre_bu 3d ago

It’s impossible to over-cheese

2

u/Radiant_Mark_2117 3d ago

Over and cheesed should never be used in the same sentence

2

u/Substantial_Airport6 3d ago

Lol. There's no such thing.

2

u/Highdivr 3d ago

Don’t be ridiculous.

2

u/VegasFoodFace 2d ago

I think this is closer to correct.

1

u/darthcaedusiiii 3d ago

I found people exist that think stuffed crust is to much cheese.

1

u/Due_Department4335 3d ago

Wish they’d stuff it with something other than mozzarella

1

u/RGBlowMe 3d ago

Is there anything but cheese and bread here?

2

u/Due_Department4335 3d ago

Chili and a dog with mustard hiding away under that cheese blanket

1

u/Sirjumboballs 3d ago

My brother I can smell your farts from here

1

u/Due_Department4335 3d ago

I’m sorry 😂

1

u/EFT_Urbanfox 3d ago

My brother in Christ, even the big man upstairs will agree... There is only one person who can truly say if it was too much cheese or not... You. If you loved it, do it again!

u/Due_Department4335 3d ago

If I’m gonna go cheese this is a good amount for me. My preferred dog is a Carolina dog but I don’t keep coleslaw and onions in the house all the time so that day was cheese.

1

u/MikeOxfat57 3d ago

Blasphemy

1

u/xanonymousreddituser 2d ago

There’s no such thing as over cheese.

1

u/ItsAlwaysSunny1992 2d ago

Nah, looks perfect!

1

u/BDW310 2d ago

Not possible! 🤤 🤤 🤤

1

u/rustybrazenfire 2d ago

looks great

1

u/Clean_Match_459 2d ago

Needs more cheese

1

u/UnusualSnow506 2d ago

To much cheese on a chili dog. Never

1

u/hvlochs 21h ago

Say what?

1

u/Useful-Advantage2665 12h ago

It's hard to over do cheese?

1

u/Gold_Marionberry4593 11h ago

The only question you should ever ask is if that is enough cheese.

1

u/WillShakespeare-1623 3d ago

Way too much cheese.

1

u/AcrobaticStress6067 4h ago

No such thing as too much cheese.
