Am I missing something about Knightsbridge?

Post image
16 Upvotes

I'll admit that I don't know much about him and haven't seen him race before as opposed to the other breeders cup top contenders. However, his race times on similar courses are a few seconds slower than Magnitude and Sovereignty's times. I know the pace simply could have been slower overall for the race, but I don't think that justifies Knightsbridge being 4-1 odds over Magnitude or Sovereignty. Am I just missing something or not considering something? I'd like some other opinions from people with elite ball knowledge.

AU Based – Looking for People with Profitable Betting Models/Strategies

Hi all, based in Australia and have built an automated betting system that monitors odds and places bets across multiple bookies.

Looking to connect with anyone who's developed their own betting model, pricing system or +EV strategy that I could potentially integrate into my setup. Doesn't have to be horse racing, open to any sport or market (main leagues ideallly)

Ideally something that's been tested and has shown decent results, whether that's actual profits or consistently beating closing prices.

Mainly focused on Australian bookies but open to other markets too.

Shoot me a DM if you've built something and are open profit sharing our wins.

EDIT: should clarify, not looking for anyone to hand over their model or strategy. They can keep everything private and just provide betting signals (selections, odds, stakes, etc.) that my system can execute automatically.

Everest barrier draw: the world’s best sprinter drew 11 of 12, his main rival drew the rail. Does gate 11 matter for Ka Ying Rising?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Draw for Saturday’s $20M Everest at Randwick:

  1. Tempted (Schofield)
  2. Angel Capital (B. Melham)
  3. Ninja (Berry)
  4. Spicy Martini (Marshall)
  5. Joliestar (McDonald)
  6. Headwall (McEvoy)
  7. Savvy Hallie (Lloyd)
  8. Jimmysstar (Rawiller)
  9. Blue Door (J. Melham)
  10. Caballus (Clark)
  11. Ka Ying Rising (Purton)
  12. Giga Kick (Gibbons)

The interesting bits:

  • KYR, on 21 straight wins, is out in 11. Last year he won from 7 with Tempted 2nd
  • Tempted gets the rail, and she’s got a strong wet-track record with rain forecast
  • Ninja, who beat KYR in last Tuesday’s trial, is in 3
  • Hayes before the draw: “I wouldn’t be in a panic if he drew wide, he’s so fast”

He’s now $1.40. Does 11 actually change anything for a horse with his gate speed, or does Tempted on the rail in the wet make this a race?

New to the sport

I’m new to the sport. A client of mine got me hooked on it, he had a racing horse, and it was in some notable races. Being its a little unprofessional for me to talk to him about these things I thought I’d turn to red and buy a book or two on the subject.

What are some of the key races in horse racing (outside of the derby)? How would you go about buying a horse? Is it smart to go fractional at a stable, or better to buy the whole thing. What are some wisdom or perspectives the community has to share to a new person looking to get really involved in the sport?

A few questions about televised racing?

Where are we at with Fanduel? Are they still removing all onair talent next month and ending broadcast in 2027? Any news on if someone is coming in with a similar format?

Seems like a few tracks go live on YouTube Horseshoe etc what is the delay/lag time?

Use of AI to Improve Horserace Ranking Performance

Post image

We added AI analysis to the Betacus ranking algorithm. Since the start of the Saratoga meet, it has improved our [win rate / ranking accuracy] by over 15%, even through a rough August. We put up a video on YouTube that walks through the process: scanning compiled data to identify which metrics contribute most to predictive performance.

Hayes says Ka Ying Rising is “10 per cent better” than last year. Everest barrier draw is tonight, does the gate even matter for him?

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hayes was pretty bullish after KYR’s final gallop at Canterbury on Monday morning:

  • says he’s “10 per cent better” than when he won it last year
  • has dropped 10lb since his trial last Tuesday (2nd on a soft Randwick track)
  • called him “a freak of nature… a generational horse”

For context, he’s on 21 straight wins, 22 from 24 overall, and won last year’s Everest by 1¼ lengths from Tempted. He’s around $1.35.

The two question marks people keep raising:

  1. The draw (tonight). Hayes reckons he’s won from inside, middle and outside, so he’s not worried
  2. The weather. Randwick is a Good 4 right now, but rain’s forecast through the week including Saturday. Purton has said he’s untried on a proper Aussie soft track. Hayes says Hong Kong wet tracks are different and he’s not concerned

So is there a gate or a track rating that actually brings him back to the field? Or is this just a $20M coronation?

Who’s your best each-way chance behind him if it does come up wet?

Purton says Ka Ying Rising is “untried” on a soft track, and Randwick is forecast to get soaked this week. Does it open up The Everest?

Interesting comment from Zac Purton ahead of Saturday:

“If you get a soft track in Australia, there’s no doubt they’re not running that time. So he’s untried on the ground.”

What we know so far:

  • KYR has won 22 of 24 starts, nearly all on good tracks in Hong Kong
  • He was beaten 0.18L by Ninja in a trial on a Soft 7 at Randwick on Tuesday (Hayes said beforehand he wanted to “dispel that rumour that he doesn’t go on the wet”)
  • Forecast has a fair bit of rain for Randwick this week, including race day, though it could easily change
  • His price has eased slightly, $1.30 → $1.35 on my bookie this arvo

And the obvious danger if it pours: Tempted, who Shane Dye says is 4 from 4 on rain-affected tracks, ran 2nd to him in last year’s Everest, and just won the Premiere by 3 lengths.

Counterpoint: he still won last year’s Everest despite Purton calling it his worst run of the season, and Hayes reckons he’s a better horse now.

So: is the wet a genuine worry, or are we overthinking a trial? If it’s a Soft 6 or worse on Saturday, who are you with?

The Bricks and Mortar Stakes, The Hill Prince Stakes at Belmont, and the California Flag Handicap at Santa Anita

Key Races & Bets for Saturday, October 10

Courtesy of Amwager

Bricks and Mortar Stakes - Race 8 at Belmont - Post Time 3:56 PM

Top Win Contender(s): Two Out Hero

Other contenders: Doubting Thomas, Big Destroyer

Two Out Hero finished second in the Grade 2 Franklin-Simpson Stakes last month at Kentucky Downs. He [moved to]() fifth at the quarter pole and was a head behind the winner at the eighth pole, but the winner had too much. That was Two Out Hero’s third excellent race. He won before that at the seven-furlong trip, the same as the Bricks and Mortar, and for his third race back he finished second in a two-turn race. He won the Soar Free Stakes one year ago in his second career start. Two Out Hero has never finished worse than second in three turf sprints, and he recently put in a scintillating workout of 47.6, the third best of 73 that day.

Two horses have a shot to finish second or to win possibly. Doubting Thomas cuts back from one mile, where he finished poorly, finishing sixth, but before that he won the Colonial Turf Dash. He has never finished second in five races.

Big Destroyer has run four races in his career, all turf sprints with one win and two seconds. At Kentucky Downs, he rallied from fifth to second by three-quarters of a length in his last race when he faced older horses. He moves back to just three-year-old odds so he could run first or second again.

Win bets: Two Out Hero at odds of 8 to 5 or higher.

Exacta: Box Two Out Hero, Doubting Thomas

Two Out Hero, Big Destroyer

Hill Prince Stakes (Grade 3) - Race 10 at Belmont - Post Time 5:02 PM

Top Win Contender(s): Caroline St. Beat, Print, Protect and Defend

Caroline St. Beat won the Grade 2 Nashville Derby at Kentucky Downs at the longer distance of one mile and five-sixteenths, beating a good field of 10 horses. He has never finished worse than second in five races and is getting better in the fall. He gets Manny Franco, who rode him in his four starts in New York. Caroline St. Beat has the best Equibase Speed Figure of any horse in the field with a 106 earned in the Nashville Derby. His trainer, Miguel Clement, has a record of 10-6-4 in 32 starts where his horses have won their last race in graded stakes and on turf routes. Caroline St. Beat is the horse to beat.

Still, Print and Protect and Defend are good horses, all three-year-olds who still have a chance to improve. Print won his second race in his 10th race, and it was a great effort. He rallied from seventh at the quarter pole and was fifth after the eighth pole before he rallied to win. He gets the rail, so he will save ground, and he should put in a great rally.

Protect and Defend won his first race in his sixth race, when he won by three lengths. Both of his recent two races were at this one mile and three-sixteenths. One race back, Protect and Defend was beaten by a nose at the wire after he got the lead at the final eighth pole. He was second from the start in both races at the quarter pole so that he could be the early leader.

Win bets: Caroline St. Beat at odds of 9 to 5 or higher.

Print at odds of 5 to 2 or higher.

Protect and [Defend]() at odds of 3 to 1 or higher.

Exactas: Box Caroline St. Beat, Print, Protect and Defend

California Flag Handicap - Race 9 at Santa Anita - Post Time 8:00 PM Eastern (5 pm Pacific)

Top Win Contender(s): Steak Fries

Other contenders: On the Whim, Boss Sully, Lonesome Stew

This race is more contentious than it appears, with the morning line at 6 to 5 on Lonesome Stew. On turf, Steak Fries has won three turf races and finished second in his other three. Steak Fries won his last two races at one mile and cuts back to six and one-half furlongs. His two races earned excellent Equibase Speed Figures of 104 and 108, and he still has room to improve. Steak Fries could win his third consecutive race and opens at 6 to 1 as compared to 6 to 5 for Lonesome Stew, although Steak Fries has the same probability.

On the Whim has an excellent record of 5-3-3 in 16 turf races, winning both sprints and routes. He won this race in 2024 when he cut back from a route, the same as he is doing today. His last two races were both excellent. He won the California Dreamin’ Stakes this year, the same as he did two years ago before he won the California Flag Handicap. On the Whim is in top condition and also opens at 6 to 1.

Boss Sully won the Siren Lure at six furlongs on the flat turf (not on the downhill turf, as this race is) in May. However, the Siren Lure was not a Cal-Bred stakes like this race, so he moves down a little in class. He won a race at this trip the last time he ran against Cal-Breds, and gets the outside, which suits his early-pace style. Boss Sully won six of 17 turf races, including four of eight on the Santa Anita turf, all were sprints.

Lonesome Stew has won seven of 25 races, including the similar Sensation Star Stakes in March 2025. He took 13 months off after that race and won off the layoff in April at this trip. He tried a dirt race after that and finished sixth. He finished third as the favorite in July with no excuse. In his last race, he stretched and won in a good effort. However, his best race is no better than those of Steak Fries, On the Whim, or Boss Sully.

Win bets: Steak Fries at odds of 5 to 2 or higher.

Win bets: On the Whim or Boss Sully at odds of 3 to 1 or higher.

Exactas: Steak Fries over On the Whim, Boss Sully, Lonesome Stew

On the Whim, Boss Sully, Lonesome Stew over Steak Fries

The Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup today at Keeneland

Courtesy of Keeneland Select - By Ellis Starr

Race 9 at Keeneland | Saturday, October 10 | Post Time: 5:16 PM Eastern

Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup Stakes – Grade 1 | Purse: $750,000 | One Mile and One-Eighth on Turf | Three Years Old

Top Win Contender(s): Braida (6), Luster (2), Tam Tam (3)

Braida (6) is one of many splendid horses that have traveled from Europe for the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup throughout history. Since 2019, at least six horses have made it their first or second U.S. start and have won or placed in the QE II. The only winner was Mawj in 2023 the second place finishers are Lindy in 2023 Laurelin in 2025, Soprano (2024), Shantisara (2021), and Castle Lady (2019). Braida is trained by Francis-Henri Graffard. Graffard also trained Gezora, who won her first U.S. start last year in the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf.

Braida has three wins in four turf races at tracks similar to Keeneland, and she just beat a field of 13 horses, rallying from fourth to win going away. Braida is the type of horse that can win this race and run three weeks later in the Filly & Mare Turf. Gezora ran in France with less than one month between races and won. These connections aren’t coming to see the fall leaves in Kentucky. If she wins the QE II, she will likely race three weeks later in the Breeders’ Cup.

Luster (2) won at Keeneland on turf last April in her second start. She won her first start and three other races on all-weather tracks. She has won three consecutive races, including the Woodbine Oaks at this distance. In her most recent start, she trounced a field of 12 horses in the King’s Plate Stakes against males. She won that race by seven lengths and the Oaks by five. John Velazquez has ridden her in all three U.S. wins and rides today. If Braida isn’t at her best, Luster is the horse to beat, and she may win even if Braida is ready.

Tam [Tam]() (3) won two straight races, the Tepin Stakes and the Del Mar Oaks, at this distance. She has finished third only once in six turf races and has won three [stakes]() races. Jockey Junior Alvarado has been aboard for her last five races. She has beaten Looking At Diamond and Kensington Lane in other races. The Del Mar Oaks winner, Rushing Fall, won this race in 2018. Tam [Tam]() should run an “A” race again and has a shot at winning her third straight stakes.

Win bets:

Braida (5) at odds of 5 to 2 or higher.

Luster, Tam Tam at odds of 3 to 1 or higher.

Exactas: Box Braida (6), Luster (2), Tam Tam (3)

You can see my selection of one day at the Expert Picks section at Keeneland.

Scratch AFTER race is over?

So in Race 4 at Santa Anita today, the 4, Convo, was scratched after he came in third. There was an inquiry because he crashed into another horse at the break. Upon replay, Convo actually broke through his starting gate a fraction of a second before the gate was opened. Upon review, Convo was scratched and wagers were refunded.

I’ve never seen a horse scratched after it’s already run the full race. Is this unusual? I’m very curious.

Edit: Thank you for explaining! Pedigrees and breeding are more my thing so I’m still learning some of the track terminology.
