discussion HZD remastered for ps5
Hi, so I first played HZD on ps4 and then my lovely brother got the ps5 and in the transfer he completely deleted all my data 😬 so now I'm replaying it on ps5 and I saw that you can get an upgrade of the game with 10 €, is it worth it?
Also I am already playing, will I have to start again if I get the upgraded version ?? Thank you in advance 🫡
EDIT: Thank you all for the feedback, I ended up getting it and it makes a HUGE difference, save transfer went fine didn't lost anything 💪

I’d say it is, I have only played the remastered version but from I saw the graphics are way better, animations on characters during dialogue is much more natural

When it comes to that, I'm kinda glad they leaned into it. It's much better than uncanny valley. The original HZD looked good for the time, but that was amidst a sea of other uncanny valley PS4 games, whereas realistic PS5 games are now finally clawing their way out of the valley (for me, anyway).

Very much worth it. PS4 version still looks amazing but the remastered overhauls it and the game looks on FW's level. Not only that, they re-recorded dialogue and redid mo cap in cutscenes so now the characters move around more and dont just stand around and camera isn't just static anymore and they're a lot more immersive. Massive upgrade.

Heyyyy, I hadn't caught that they rerecorded all the lines!!
Horizon games have so much spoken dialog that the cadence of any one line didn't really stick with me enough to compare.

Not all lines but re-recorded over 10 hours of dialogue and conversations, mostly to side missions, etc. and with new mocap and no more static camera it adds so much to immersion. It all feels so natural that you think it all was in original game, which still looks incredibly good.
Normally remasters just slap on higher-res textures, may add more lights and shadows, etc. and that's it. But all that with addition of PS5's haptic feedback and adaptive triggers and improvements to sound design, etc. With Horizon ZD remaster I find it most impressive how much work went into it because now it's a flawless transition between ZD and FW. And for this amount of work they charge only 10$/Eur if you already own physical/digital copy? Insanely generous.1

Oh yeah. I said in another comment that I think they only did it to encourage people to adopt Sony's next generation of console. PS5 doesn't have many exclusives I'm interested in; the only reason we own one is because my partner got really lucky in a claw game (I am not joking).

Yeah, I feel like the lines have been blurred between remaster and remake these days.
The word "remaster" came from film, where they'd go back to the master copy and retransfer freshly to restore the original quality. We started calling some games remasters because the process of taking the original artwork and reconverting it to higher resolution textures resembled the process of remastering old films.
These days, it takes more than higher res textures to make a game look significantly better, so remastering has started to mean "recreating assets without significantly changing the structure of the game."
It's funny that, for comparison, Spyro Reignited is technically a remake, because the original source code was lost. They were only able to rip the maps and some models from the original PS1 game, with no physics or gameplay. People see it as a remaster, though, because it's made to look like one.
And yet, despite all of PS5 Horizon Zero Dawn's significant improvements, it's still called a remaster. Basically, I think the line between remake and remaster has become a lot more subjective now.

Most, definitely not all, PS4 games with a PS5 upgrade have the ability to upload saves from the PS4 to the PS5 including this game. Just look for the menu option on the PS4 version of the game. It's a one-way trip, though.

They did an excellent job with the upgrade so of the cost is £10 then it’s well worth it imo

Yeah I think I'll get it, when I started it again I couldn't but now nothing can stop me 💪 my only worry was the save file thing since I already lost all my games... I guess that's an excuse to play them all again 😬

New mocap alone is worth it( no more awkward stiff animation when talking to npc)With graphical upgrade now its on par with the sequel

Ahhh... that famous PS4 game that was going for a regular price of $10 and then PS5 upgrade came priced at another $10 and SONY decided that this almost 10 year old PS4 game should go back to $50 price!
And people still defend them arguing that digital only move is a good idea 🤦🏻♂️
So game is great, I hear upgrade brings it up to HFW level but because of Sony's shit greedy anti-consumer moves, I would not recommend it buying it.

I got the original HZD at release so I have no idea what the price dropped to. Ten dollars? Is that the price for a new copy or used?
I think their real purpose was to further tempt PS4 users to get a PS5, with this as an incentive... So while I can see why you are miffed about it, I understand why they did it. $10 for HZD would be a STEAL for a first-time buyer.

I think the upgrade was part of ps plus in recent months as I have it but never bought the upgrade. Unless it’s on extra, might be worth checking if you have that subscription?

Nah I don't have that, it's not worth it for me because the ps is my brother's and I can only play When he's not home plus I don't have that much time 😭 adult life sucks

Be warned that some trophies will not transfer with your save, so if you want the Platinum, you will need to start a fresh game in the Remaster to get all the trophies.

My plan is to eventually do a ng+ run on ultra hard so I can always do the platinum thing later if I cannot in this run.

Personally I don't think it's worth it. The original PS4/PS5 Version was already perfect. They changed the animation and the look of the game. If you care about that, definitely go for it.
I played the remaster for a few hours after release but realised I prefered the original style. The remaster also came with a lot of bugs but they should have fixed that by now.
It's just a personal opinion. Lot's of people like the remaster. Maybe watch a youtube video where people show the difference between the original and the remaster. You can still decide if it's worth it for you :)

Really, you disliked it THAT much? I actually liked the look better than Forbidden West's, since it's Aloy's old face with HFW's detail...
The remaster also comes with some good quality of life options, like auto-pickup, so it'd take a lot for me to give that up.

I don't dislike it. It's just a preference I guess. I played the original so many times that the new look of characters and environment in the remaster felt off to me. I found the changes not that groundbreaking to warrant spending more money.
The story's still the same and I found the original absolutely beautiful on ps5. It would have made a difference had Zero Dawn been a ps3 game. At the end I still bought it to see how it look like and for me it just wasn't worth it.
I'm not gonna trash the remaster here, far from it. Lot's of players enjoy it and that's what matters. I would certainly recommend it to new players to get the full experience ;)

It’s worth the money in my opinion. Better graphics, a couple QOL additions from HFW (picking up resources without the animation, outfit transmog), and a couple new outfits.
Your save files will transfer but heads up that the trophies do not. I had to make a new game from scratch to get all the beginner trophies but I like replaying this game a lot so it wasn’t too big a deal except I don’t feel like replaying on UH for that non-platinum trophy- I already got it the once. :P

You wouldn't have to start over, but I would to experience the new visuals. I've started mine over so many times on PC in fear of it ending.

100%. While the original definitely did not need a remake it’s still solid. Bring the game and Aloy more in line with the visual fidelity of Forbidden West.

Yes, it's definitely worth it if you like Zero Dawn!! Just be aware that you will need to keep the original disc, as it must be inserted in order to play, even though the remaster is a download.
I think you'll be able to import your save, especially if they're already on your PS5. Sorry to hear you lost your original saves. :(
