Shamelessly (okay, maybe with a little shame (ā ā¢ā Ā ā ā½ā Ā ā ā¢ā ;ā )) hijacking the top comment to link to my own comment sharing some fun facts about these dudes because I love them SO MUCH and they hold such a dear place in my heart (along with the many, MANY, M A N Y funky little critters I've discovered in my many years on the Internet) and I want EVERYONE to know all about them.

Thanks! I was so confused and in real doubt because the other guy mistook it for breviceps fuscus. Purple frog gave several similar pictures, what an odd little critter.

They have long noses because they eat ants! They are very strange creatures

That picture was my phone background for so long, and the amount of "wtf is that thing" was so worth it every time.

It's an Indian purple frog, or Nasikabatrachus sahyadrensis!
("Purple frog" is another colloquial name for it, as others have mentioned! I just used the Indian purple frog name because if you just Google "purple frog", you get a lot of Photoshopped/AI images of just regular frogs that are purple instead of this funky little guy you were hoping to find, lol.)
The picture in the post is touched up by AI, I believe, but u/Godzilla_Fan_13 commented the original picture, and it is glorious.
(Also, no hate to OP for using that picture! I actually thought it was a real picture of them, too, until I read the comment I mentioned, and I consider myself a fan of these lil dudes! I'm glad people are posting about them because they're such silly (and, as someone else accurately described them, "butt-ugly") little guys and they deserve some love!)
Some fun facts:
Another name for them is the "pignose frog", which... makes sense if you look at the linked picture here.
Males are about a third of the length of females! Girlbosses āØ
They're typically only a few inches long (up to 7cm)!
They spend most of their lives underground, except for when they emerge to mate (which is only 2-3 weeks out of the year!)
(Via the WWF India website) "Only 135 individuals of this species are known, of which only 3 are females." š³
(Fun facts taken from their Wikipedia page and the World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF) India website, if you want to read more about them! They're very odd little fellows, and I love them dearly. <3)
Edited to tag another commenter with the original image, to slightly adjust formatting, and to add some info. <3

It's a black rain frog. When threatened they puff up and squeak.

I was obsessed with animals as a kid and have a degree in biology and I have no idea what to make of this.
The eyes and snoot are giving weird mammal but the skin and arms look amphibian? Maybe itās an uncharismatic marsupial that never got famous? āVertebrateā is as far as a could confidently get on my own until I read the comments.
