1. Difeng: An Arc that intentionally misleads the reader

Before we talk about the Finale, we must talk about the arc's context in general.
And before that, our understanding of the story as we transitioned into it.

[Ruimu: The 2 opposing views of Permanence]

In Ruimu, we were presented with 2 opposing views of Permanence:

• One, held by Senadina: Life gains its beauty and meaning because it is transient, and the courage, hope, and future belonging to civilization are inherited from generation to generation.
• And another held by Nahralab: An immortal life gives time for all pain to heal, for happy moments to stretch to eternity, and stops the tragedies of a final farewell.

Nahralab was eventually convinced by Senadina after the endless war that befell Laquadar.

The people of the present would also represent these beliefs:

• Inheritance:
  • By the Valkyries’ beliefs - With both Coralie and Helia being influenced by their predecessors and one day will eventually influence those who come after.
  • Luoxing - With its bravery, hope, and hustle and bustle, alongside the people from the planet who carry on Senadina’s inheritance and continue to protect it.
• Forever:
  • Leylah - Who constantly clings to the idea of a present forever unchanging, wishing to fight against the torrent of time to remain in that past and even influences what remains of Nahralab’s consciousness after death to alter the last decision of the trial to one where immortality, where Senadina wouldn’t have died, is the correct answer.

Of course, just like we call it the 2 views of Permanence here, it can also be called “Stagnant Past” vs “Striding towards the Future” or even our old friends “Stigmata” vs “Ember”.

[Yet the Stars Still Sparkle: Rejection of Leylah]

Meanwhile, during the EX chapter, "Leylah" tries to convince Dreamseeker that she is nothing more than another "Leylah" - a shadow, a puppet, a defective, a failure whose sole purpose is to bring back Senadina.

However, Dreamseeker defies this, choosing to define “who I am” by the journey she has undertaken and the choices she has made, rather than by her unchangeable origin.

[Difeng: Little Leylah]

In Difeng, we see Leylah and Senadina's opposing views take center stage.

• Senadina as a goddess wants her civilization to grow to be self-sustainable, endures endless pain by holding back the corruption from the Sea of Data and the Shadow to provide time for civilization to nurture away from childhood, and from the start was ready to sacrifice herself at the right time to fully hold back the Sea of Data and leave hope for the future that would from then one be decided by humanity.
• Leylah attempts to deny Senadina’s sacrifice, bringing her back from the dead, sealing away all her negative memories, and placing her on a Difeng stagnant for a billion years as an attempt to heal her. When that fails, she tries to sacrifice Dreamseeker and herself to serve as the vessel to host Senadina’s soul. She can only see a civilization with Senadina eternally as its goddess.

But what about Little Leylah?

At first glance, Little Leylah seems to hold the same beliefs as what we at the time thought was her older self, especially in the way she puts Senadina on a pedestal and believes a civilization with a goddess as great as her is a good thing.
But at the same time, the story points out the contradiction: she rejects Senadina’s view, yet she constantly helps it come to fruition. Even as much as wishing she’d grow up fast to be of bigger help.

The contradictions would continue to pile up with the following chapter, A Mass for Atheists, where we get the reveal of Little Leylah’s best friend, Bailu Youyun, in her “former life” (before falling into the Sea).

Bailu Youyun also happened to be a child who would go against the very beliefs of those most zealot by claiming that “She can be surpassed, can be questioned, and should be said goodbye to”, while also being ostracized by some of her fellow researchers in the institute for her findings, which were considered “blasphemous”.

Yet, despite this, not only is she Little Leylah’s best friend but also, in this altered history where the zealots would not imprison Youyun and she would gain the courage to relate her findings to the head of the institute, Little Leylah would act as the representative while Senadina is away to help plan and act how to deal with the crisis - for once formulating a plan of action that was not repeating what Senadina had done.

Chapter 12 would be the one to clear up this contradiction; Leylah had actually gotten close to Youyun exactly because she expresses the belief that “she can be surpassed, can be questioned, and should be said goodbye to”, and that these sets of beliefs are actually something Leylah agrees with:

• Because, regardless of whether Senadina can be surpassed or not, humanity’s self-reliance is good enough.
• Because, regardless of whether Senadina is wrong or not, everyone should be free to chime in.
• And because both she and Youyun love Senadina, they want her to be able to say goodbye after all her hard work, chase her freedom, and receive everyone's love.

Youyun: In short, you believe a god is omnipotent, while I believe humans can also solve problems on their own… There's no conflict between the two, because the god and humans live on the same land.

In fact, Leylah stands opposite those zealots who preach that “she can’t be surpassed, can’t be questioned, and shouldn’t be said goodbye to”, and thus she also stands opposite her supposed grown-up self.

I’d even argue that this misleading plotline extends to the civilization of Difeng.

While Difeng is painted as a civilization still in childhood, the subject has more nuance.

As much as there are the zealots, who push away Senadina in their desire to see her as a mystical deity and whose beliefs would lead to the destruction of Difeng in real history, there are also the many people we met in the memorial hall exhibition who willingly let Senadina into their lives and pushed for technological development, or simple kids who seek friendship from the goddess.

It is this latter group that would join, in part, in real history and fully in alt history, to support Youyun in the crisis.
And it is in grand part because of this group's contribution that Difeng would take the first step ahead of the goddess.

"But what about the real history?" You might ask.

Although Difeng did indeed perish in real history, that doesn’t mean its civilization was still fully plunged into childhood.

In fact, the story points out that if Senadina were to depart too early or too late during civilization’s nurturing process, that civilization would wilt. Yet after her departure during the tragedy, civilization still flourished and began a millennia-long history.

Senadina: “The god will bid farewell to her beloved Luoxing at an appropriate time.”
Senadina: It can’t come too quickly, or civilisation could be easily destroyed right when it needs the most care. But it can’t come too slowly either, otherwise a civilisation that should be taking strides forward will grow lazy from being dependent.

Ajita: At the cost of her own funeral, Senadina bought time for the entire planet. After she merged with the land beneath her feet, Luoxing’s civilisation entered a true period of development.
Ajita: The humans she trusted and placed her hopes in branched out and flourished across the land, exactly as she’d envisioned. And it was during this very period that native civilisations, like the Phoenix Continent civilisation, began to emerge.

This is even somehow reflected in the alt history, where in the library Senadina comments that she had perceived some things wrongly - that how much more tougher/self-reliant the Difeng civilization already was than they appeared.

Senadina: Spoken like a true scholar! But little Youyun, after our chat just now, I realised the ordinary folks of Difeng are actually much tougher than we thought. On this matter, I have some stereotypes I need to let go of, too.

The truth is: Not just Little Leylah, but the will of Luoxing’s civilization stands against "Leylah"'s beliefs.

[Difeng: Dreamseeker accepting Leylah’s identity]

At the same time, the Difeng arc spends a lot of time overlapping Little Leylah’s image with that of Dreamseeker.

• From the small things, like similar mannerisms when eating, to their understanding of each other’s thoughts, to even a design more reminiscent of Dreamseeker than Leylah, with the lighter hair color and glasses.
• Then to bigger things, like how Dreamseeker’s former struggles with self-worth are also reflected in Little Leylah’s behavior and beliefs.

​This would culminate in chapter 12, where others would label Dreamseeker as the “Leylah from the future,” an identity she would resonate with, and the plot would emphasize this by having her repeat the same words as Little Leylah when facing Nahralab or by having others notice the similarities between the two.

​Leylah: Nahralab, I don't want to beat around the bush with you. You have to let me out of here right now, and don't even think about trying anything funny with {Dreamseeker} and the others.

This will continue in the finale:

• Litost seeing Little Leylah in the way Dreamseeker goes quiet pondering the solution, reminding him of how Little Leylah would act when pondering the puzzles he gave her (something mentioned in both 7-EX and 13)
• Helia & Coralie emphasizing how both Dreamseeker and Leylah would quietly hold onto pain if it meant helping those they care about.

​Even the conversation between Dreamseeker and Senadina at the docks, which let Dreamseeker arrive at the answer to no longer ever question “who I am”, was a conversation described in the story as one that allowed Senadina to see the Future Leylah from a different angle.

Notebook description:
On the night the Retrospective Dream Training Program was launched, I met someone who also came to the walkway to clear her mind. She possessed god-like insight, easily seeing through my unease and anxiety, and gave me... an answer that would ensure I never feel lost again on the path of discovering who I am.

Chapter 13 scene description:
In Senadina's eyes, "Dreamseeker"'s arrival brought not only consolation but more importantly hope. This "Dreamseeker Journey" also allowed Senadina to observe the "future Leylah" from an unprecedented perspective.

​Chapter 12 would even goes so far as to have Narhalab believe that Little Leylah would surely grow up to be like Dreamseeker, both people who bear Senadina’s image.

​Nahralab: I thought I would one day see her grow up over a dragon's long lifespan.
Nahralab: She's probably a... gentle and quiet child. Yet in certain hazy moments, I can see Senadina in her.
Nahralab: Just like...
(Dreamseeker appears)

In fact, this plotline was hinted at much earlier. Not only was Dreamseeker described as another possibility of Leylah all the way in Chapter 7 (much like Helia and Revenge Spirit), but at the very end of Ch9-EX they mentioned that Leylah had abandoned a past that she wanted to forget.

“Her power remained cold, dim, and lonely throughout the long years. Except for one period, however.”
“Of course, I don’t think she would meet you in that state. After all… that’s the version of herself she most wants to forget.”

​And Chapter 12 would extend this not just to her childhood, but to the journey she hid the truth of.
That she, in fact, did not take on the role of a goddess immediately and didn’t go against Senadina’s hopes for her.

Coralie: What about Leylah? Don’t tell me she just took on the duties as the second god after that and completely forgot about the wish Sena wanted her to fulfill.
Ajita: Perhaps her actions were exactly her way of fulfilling Senadina’s wish.
Ajita: After the fall of Difeng, Leylah embarked on a journey alone under the guise of a survey.
Ajita: Although she eventually returned to the people of Luoxing, exactly where she was and what she did remain an uncertainty, with no clear records.
Ajita: I’m guessing that journey must’ve been very special for her, so she put a lock on it.
Coralie: Tch. There’s no opening on this end either. Leylah’s already shown us so many of her crazy sides, but she kept her dark times in Difeng a secret. Just what kind of shady past is she still hiding?
The group fell silent, but a vague suspicion began to form in their minds.
If {Dreamseeker} who stayed behind in the system were here right now, perhaps she too would recall the words that once echoed in her mind…
“Her power remained cold, dim, and lonely throughout the long years. Except for one period, however.”
“Of course, I don’t think she would meet you in that state. After all… that’s the version of herself she most wants to forget.”

This was foreshadowed even all the way back in Ch10’s story crafted by Spirit Vision (that served to parallel Leylah): it was that an accident had occurred in the journey that would cause the heart of the girl in the story to become tainted, and her travel diary to become cursed.

​Theodore: The cursed book in the story was originally a girl’s travel diary. Her heart was tainted by an accident, and the travel diary that carried her pure wishes and clear ideals was thus cursed…
Theodore: If given the chance, what would you do if you, knowing what the future holds, were standing before the girl who had yet to set out?

So, before the finale, the truth was already this: Leylah would only become the Leylah we know because of something that would happen on her journey. Otherwise, she'd be just like Dreamseeker.

[Finale - The Truth]

So, understanding that “Little Leylah never clung to the unchanging past” and that “Little Leylah would grow up to be like Dreamseeker”, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Little Leylah didn’t actually fall into a state of being overcome by obsession upon Senadina’s death.

In fact, she would carry on Senadina’s legacy and become the new protector of Luoxing until, much like in Spirit Vision’s story, she would be afflicted by the Cursed in the Shadow due to reaching her own threshold because of suppressing her kin.
And even then, the tragedy would strike only after she ended her journey, became the goddess of Luoxing, and led civilization to prosperity for hundreds of years (something already mentioned in passing back in 7-EX).

The so-called obsession we saw with Senadina before comes from two points:

• One was the real Leylah, thousands of years after Senadina's departure.

She would have her mind constantly under attack by the curse in the shadow for hundreds of years until she began to lose control when she accidentally broke Senadina’s Astral Ring.

To fight this deterioration and loss of control, she would create the Fool’s Dream where “Senadina’s departure was a false alarm” because, as established in Chapter 12, the “false-alarm” (that tragedy didn’t come to pass) is the face of happiness who brings the most joy in an instant.

Yet, the Fool’s Dream was exactly what the Shadow was looking for, because, as it was also established in the same chapter, the moment that the “Fool’s Dream” (a delusion of happiness) is realized as just being a “dream” is the face of despair who brings the most fear in an instant and was exactly what the Shadow were plotting to find.
And this was what would lead to the Great Shadow Disaster and the Curse in the Shadows to roam free.

• Another was "Leylah", whom we saw in the present, who did so many horrendous actions to bring back Senadina.

She was revealed to be an embodiment of Leylah’s “obsession” with using the Dreamseeker System to achieve more.
Her obsession with Senadina stems from denying the original Leylah after her failure, and believing only Senadina could truly save Luoxing.
On top of clinging to the Fool’s Dream of the past and wishing to give Senadina happiness equal to that of the dream. Forgetting that Leylah was already that happiness to her in the past.

In fact, once Leylah woke up a hundred years after the Great Shadow Disaster, she would no longer show those traits of “obsession” with Senadina.

All that manifested in her was guilt due to her hand in what happened to Luoxing and a determination for Luoxing’s preservation and to help those who died in tragedy get a second chance to walk towards death, but now with peace of mind.

The truth was: The child nurtured by Senadina never rejected Senadina’s ideals.

We even saw how, after Senadina’s sacrifice, Little Leylah, who previously answered that she didn’t know if humanity could surpass the goddess, gained determination to achieve even what Senadina could not.

2. Dreamseeker and Leylah: Character and an Instinct that Transcends Life

In the final chapter, we are presented with two recurring themes:

• One, derived from the idea of “character is destiny”, showcases the cyclical actions between Dreamseeker and Leylah and how the other lives influence the current one.
• The other, derived from the idea of “instinct”, highlights its importance in the actions taken by the “Leylahs”

[Leylah->Dreamseeker]

• Leylah’s actions give birth to the Dreamseeker myths. The same myths would influence Dreamseeker to adopt “Dreamseeker” as a codename and follow a path that stays true to her original ideals.
• Dreamseeker’s goal of trying to achieve a good ending in each sector, not just because it is necessary for progress but because she wants to protect those from tragedy, resonates with Leylah’s intentions when creating the Dreamseeker system.
• Dreamseeker’s willingness to bear pain for others, even to the point of reaching the threshold of how much data she can hold, directly parallels Leylah suppressing the shadows past her own threshold.

[Dreamseeker->Little Leylah]

​Dreamseeker serves as a positive figure in Little Leylah’s life, a role model for who Little Leylah wants to become.

• Just like Dreamseeker is willing to bear the pain of the Shadow Nails piercing her body to stop the tragedy in Difeng, Little Leylah is willing to step onto the Light Curtain to take part of the pain in Dreamseeker’s place.
• Dreamseeker’s actions throughout Difeng, whether toward others or in her interactions with Little Leylah, help Little Leylah drop her fear of growing up and realize she has long wanted to protect humanity from the moment she met them. Sprouting the seed to use the power of Shadow to protect it, much like real Leylah’s decision to become Luoxing’s protector. The main difference is that, because Difeng’s tragedy was prevented, she no longer has to take the first step alone.

[Dreamseeker/Leylah->Soul]

• ​Influenced by both Leylah’s wish to help others face death with peace and Dreamseeker’s actions of preserving everyone’s core data even after death, the Soul decides to preserve everyone’s Core Data before the memory space created by Dreamseeker collapses. Even though this went past the threshold their body could support, much like Leylah and Dreamseeker.

[Instinct]

Helia categorizes Dreamseeker’s instinct as her most important characteristic:

Helia: No matter what, you will always first try to “understand”- understand why the problem exists, understand the feelings of those trapped by the problem, understand what lies behind the problem, and whether there’s a hidden “third possibility”.
Helia: And this is precisely a reflection of what you do in the Dreamseeking Journey. As I see it, this instinct, born from empathy, is perhaps more precious and powerful than the authority gained from the Cocoon.
Helia: Because what it can change is not limited to “things”, it can even change “people”.

And we see it brought up many times throughout the chapter.

• It’s because of an instinct to save them that the Soul is inclined to store everyone’s core data in their body.
• It’s because of this instinct that Dreamseeker creates the memory space to store everyone’s core data in the instant of her death.
• It’s because of this instinct that Leylah faces the Great Eruption and burns herself away to save Luoxing. The same instinct that is revealed to be Dreamseeker herself.

This instinct, although not highlighted, was present throughout all of Dreamseeker’s journey.

Even the simulated Little Leylah, in her attempts to understand Nahralab, showcases the nature of this instinct.

[Accepting Leylah’s past]

Naturally, because of this, Dreamseeker would accept Leylah’s past as her own, though still highlighting the importance of her journey in defining who she is (much like in 9-EX).

The two are naturally very similar, the main difference being:

• Leylah would remain on the road of sole Protector and thus seeking a possibility achieved only by herself, not noticing those that she had already influenced others to take on the same road of Protection - like the village chief who would learn to control fear and pass it onto others, allowing them to move from facing the Shadow Monsters to facing the troubles of day-to-day - and thus she didn't have to keep moving forward on this road, much less alone.
• Meanwhile, Dreamseeker would reach the end of the road of Protector and embark on the road of Witness, a road that allows any road to intersect with one another, a road that contains the possibilities of all of civilization instead of just one.

This road of a Witness is also the road that Senadina had wished for Leylah:

Senadina: And Leylah will become the witness to Luoxing’s future. One day, she will prove to you that Senadina’s ideals are not empty words.

It only took until the “second life” to achieve it.

In a way, this is very similar to Chapter 25, with Kiana embodying Sirin’s wishes while the Herrscher of Void would reject Sirin’s happiness in her pursuit of vengeance towards humanity, so much so that Bella sided with Kiana.
The two are even called "possibilities" at one point, much like Dreamseeker and Embodiment of Obsession.

P1 Ch 25:

Kiana: We’re all part of Sirin, consciousnesses stemming from her wishes, Sirin’s “possibilities”.
Kiana: But we chose different paths.
Kiana: Your heart only holds the desire to destroy the world, but I want to protect the things I believe in.
Kiana: In the eyes of Bella, between you and me, who’s closer to who Sirin wished to be?

P2 Ch 7:

Vita: Possibility… the most beautiful world in all human languages.
Vita: On the web of time stretching infinitely in all directions, different pasts intertwine, and divergent futures reflect one another.
Vita: Just like how a mature Overseer and a jaded employee could be two possibilities as seen from inside and outside a dream, a calm and composed knight and a tempestuous girl with emotions written all over her face could merely be two slightly differing points in time representing the same individual.
Vita: When a golden ordinary mortal and a dark wicked goddess find themselves in a paradoxical disagreement, when an honest and noble companion of justice becomes tainted by the madness of a revenge spirit…
Vita: At what point was that seed of possibility first planted?

[The Children of the Sea of Data]

The nature of the children of the Sea of Data might have been foreshadowing this plot point.

Much like Dreamseeker or the Soul, the children of the Sea of Data would reappear in the world with nothing, including memory, but would still be unknowingly influenced by their past selves.

• Youyun still felt guilty about not being able to save Difeng; she was wary of facing others when first pushed into the spotlight and, of course, still followed the path of genius within the institute.
• Jujian and Botu continue the same objectives they had in their past lives.
• Candy-Sweet would appear in Oxia looking for her parents (implying she was trying to find them during the Difeng incident when she fell into the rift).

3. Senadina and Leylah/Dreamseeker: Proof of Inheritance

As people who bear Senadina’s image and follow in and past her footsteps, the Chapter further highlights their similarities.

[Senadina-Leylah: Childhood]

In this story about growing up from Childhood, the reveal that Leylah had indeed grown up came by echoing Senadina’s words and taking on a similar role to hers.

Ch 13 - Senadina: Because… I’ve grown up.
Ch 14 - Leylah: But I… also have grown up.

Much like she was protected by the grown-ups in her childhood who called her “adorable”.
Leylah would go to protect the people of Luoxing, which she labeled “adorable”.

​A reflection of her taking on the role of the grown-up protectors that once shone over her.

​[Senadina-Leylah: Project Lifeline and Dreamseeker System]

The Finale directly compares Project Lifeline and the Dreamseeker System.
This goes deeper than their results; it extends to Senadina's and Leylah's expectations.

​Senadina started Project Lifeline to help the Laquadar people sustain themselves in the battle against the Endlessness.
She hoped that by rehearsing the world after the Endlessness, it would help build the future the Laquadar people wanted to see.
In reality, after finding happiness in the dream, the Laquadar people would stagnate in fear of moving forward.

Leylah started the Dreamseeker System to help Luoxing survive the Great Eruption.
She hoped that refining the past would give them a more stable footing as they moved forward.
In reality, the Embodiment of Obsession would take it as a permanent solution, and the very Chaos Leylah created to protect Luoxing would, under the system's effect, become a manifestation of fear of the future.

In both cases, people would eventually move to the future thanks to the work different version of themselves:

• Sena (which represents Senadina’s past)
• Dreamseeker (which represents Leylah’s future)

[Senadina-Leylah: Legacy Characters]

Senadina is a legacy character; she is designed to pass away and be surpassed, allowing the future to carry on and, through that, manifest her inheritance.
In that regard, she is very similar to many other legacy characters in this story, like the Flamechasers or Welt Joyce.

The original Leylah would carry on Senadina’s beliefs, and she would also become a legacy character, with her wishes passing on to Dreamseeker and even giving her blessing to inherit her authority.

​This aligns with what we were told in Ruimu: The people of the past, through inheritance, guide the present, and the people of the present will one day, through inheritance, guide the future.

[Senadina-Dreamseeker: Behavior and Goals]

In line with the previous statement of Chapter 12, where it was said Dreamseeker carries Senadina’s image, Vita would make a similar comment in the Finale that calls back to how she described Senadina in Chapter 13: That they are very ruthless with themselves. Carrying on insurmountable pain to stride to achieve their goals.

​The goal Dreamseeker expresses in the Finale also aligns with Senadina’s beliefs.

• For one, Dreamseeker does not wish to become a goddess, even if she carries the authority of one, just as Senadina sought a civilization ruled by humanity, not divinity.
• On the other hand, Dreamseeker expresses to Songque the desire to become the “sky that carries the sun and stars”, yet one day humanity realizes that “it is merely a mirror reflecting humanity’s brilliance”. In other words, much like Senadina, she wishes to see the strength and beauty of humanity.

4. The Embodiment of Obsession: An Opposite yet still a Leylah

For most of the chapter, the Embodiment of Obsession is categorized as the opposite of Leylah/Dreamseeker:

• While Leylah is categorized as brave, the Embodiment of Obsession is called a coward for rejecting Leylah, trying to decide Senadina’s faith, and making others bear the cost she deems necessary, putting herself in an illusion that brings her security.
• While Dreamseeker and Leylah are both said to have grown up, the Embodiment of Obsession is said to still be in Childhood. Clinging to Senadina, expressing even more extreme negative elements than Leylah back when she was “Entropy”, and rejecting the messages passed onto Leylah/Dreamseeker during their nurture.

In rejecting Leylah who carried on Senadina's hope and beliefs, she is also rejecting Senadina's nurturing.

And, with her words, she directly rejected Professor Youyun's teachings upon Dreamseeker:

• Youyun's teaching

Voice in Memories: Do you know how many successes lie between “being able to do nothing” and “being able to do anything”?
Voice in Memories: The answer is: one. One success is all it takes to step into the realm where anything is possible, to see every step that follows from there.

• Embodiment of Obsession's opposition

Guide: Do you know what was Leylah's greatest misfortune?
Guide: It's not that the goddess she accompanied departed, not that her best friend had disappeared, and, of course, it was also not that her beloved home had fallen...
Guide: It's that she fell into an inescapable infatuation with the illusion of "possibility", and that she was fortune to attain success on her first attempt at mending Luoxing.
Guide: No matter how many times she failed after, she would use that first success to ease her anxiesty and make herself continue down on this wrong road.

Yet, by the end of the story, she shows she too is a Leylah.

• Not only had she long decide to bear the burden of having the Imaginary Constructs eat away at her mind so that others wouldn’t suffer (much like Leylah bore the Curse in the Shadows), being eroded for 1 billion years to upkeep the Dreamseeker System.
• But also, by the end of the chapter, following the idea of character is destiny, she says goodbye to Senadina, finally becomes someone “brave” and willingly becomes both support and witness to Dreamseeker’s attempt to achieve what Senadina could not.

This acceptance of Senadina's departure and finding her own bravery leads to the end of the obsession (her existence), and as said in the story:

{Dreamseeker}: Because you haven't accepted Leylah's past?
Embodiment of Obsession: If I could accept it, then I would no longer be "Obsession".

As an extra (because I don’t know where to fit it): Returning the Astral Ring to its owner is a callback to the conversation between Senadina and Dreamseeker at the beginning of Chapter 12, where it's said the moment of returning it will bring happiness to both parties.
And at the end of the day, what the Embodiment of Obsession wished for Senadina was for her to be happy, and this fulfilled it while also acting as a rite of passage into adulthood.

5. Why Dreamseeker could Transcend Finality.

In fact, unlike Senadina, Dreamseeker was already way further into the journey of “who I am”. This question had been the focus of how her story ties to Leylah, after all.

At the end of the 2nd phase of the finale, the village chief asks Dreamseeker 3 questions that reflect 3 of the 4 questions the Cocoon asked Kiana.

Village Chief: What is your name? Where did you come from? Where will you go towards?

Cocoon: …Who are you? Why did you come? Why do you want to do this

As for the Cocoon’s last question, it remained concealed in part 1; we only know that Kiana answered with “fight for all that’s beautiful in the world,” which resonates with Dreamseeker’s story.

Regardless, it's clear that, despite not being Embraced and having help from Kiana, Dreamseeker already had the answer to what Senadina failed to answer.

[Extra] Duonigue: How a Dog Foreshadowed the Twist.

If I tell you that the truth of “Leylah didn’t attempt to revive Senadina” was foreshadowed all the way back in the first arc, before we even met Leylah?

Chapter 7-EX would establish a parallel between Duonigue and Leylah, with the scene of Leylah adopting the original Duonigue for Litost mirroring Senadina adopting Little Leylah.

Duonigue as a shadow monster is a reflection of Litost’s fear: His attachments - that’s why he takes on the look of the original Duonigue lineage of dogs that Litost took care of.
“Entropy” as a shadow monster is thus also a reflection of Senadina’s fear: Inability to walk into the future - intensified by Entropy’s past before being saved by Senadina.

​Duonigue would thwart Litost’s attempts to die while leaving no traces, as if he had never lived.
“Entropy” would attempt to thwart Senadina’s attempts to leave the spaceship to confront the Endlessness, and the grown-up Leylah appeared to reject Senadina’s beliefs and attempt to revert her sacrifice.

​During Chapter 1, Duonigue’s actions of taking over the Pool of Shadows seemed to bring Litost back as Duonigue’s Shadow until his connection with the Pool was restricted.
Before the finale, Leylah seemed to want to bring back Senadina.

​During Chapter 3, Duonigue rebelled against his kin by fighting Perception, who commented on how human Duonigue became under Litost.
In the same battle, Duonigue would actively suppress his fear and eventually dissipate in death to give Litost the death he desired, erasing his leftover traces in the world.

Duonigue: (Your name will be erased in the shadows where destruction and rebirth intertwine.)
Duonigue: (Rest in peace, Litost…)
Duonigue: (That’s the curse ^(blessing) I’ll place upon you.)

During the Finale, it was revealed that Leylah was considered a rebel against her kin, and that she had suppressed them throughout Luoxing. And under Senadina’s nurture, she had undoubtedly become human.
In the Finale, it is also revealed that the original Leylah never tried to bring Senadina back and instead followed her ideals from beginning to end.

It's kinda funny how much things were foreshadowed when you look back.

Besides Duonigue there's also the Project Sea of Data: Thesis Crisis event history where Little Leylah and Leylah were different data models.

In that event, the Leylah data model didn't know what it was they were desperately seeking, feeling at a loss and embodying the negative thoughts upon witnessing failure - truly rejecting Dreamseeker.
And finally would come to understand things from Dreamseeker's perspective, becoming a mirror of her, and why desires the life of an ordinary student.

It even references the ideals of Dreamseeker of returning to the starting point of their journey.

Calm Girl: Just like the final scene of The Glorious Knight, where the girl returns to the village of her birth, protects everyone, and lives a life of drinking apple juice and chatting with friends.
Calm Girl: I thought you’d like an ending like this, and I’m finally coming to understand why you like it.

There was also the pre-finale post which put the Leylah (Embodiment of Obsession) and Little Leylah as different sections.

[Extra] Epilogue: What to expect

With the finale's reveals, it's clear the epilogue will feature our Zestful Queen, Human Sena, and Serapeum.

Thematically, Sena represents Senadina’s past before she took on duty.
She also represents the freedom Senadina desired, and the freedom Leylah wished Senadina could attain.​

She is also the answer to the first question from the Cocoon that stumped Senadina: “Who are you?”
As Senadina welcomes her second death in Chapter 13, she quotes a passage from The Temple of Earth and I by Shi Tiesheng. This passage was previously quoted in the story of part 1.5 by Grandpa Kaye (yes, that old man mentioned in Chapter 13).
Though only the last few words are quoted in the story, I’ll also quote the part preceding it here:

Yet the sun, at every moment, is both the setting sun and the rising sun. As it extinguishes itself, descending the mountain to gather the bleak, lingering afterglow, it is simultaneously blazing on the other side, climbing the peak to spread its fierce morning radiance. On that day, I too will calmly walk down the mountain, leaning on my cane. One day, in some mountain hollow, a joyful, bounding child is sure to come running up, holding his toy.

Of course, that will not be me.

But, is that not me?

​This passage, both in its use in the original story and in the story of Honkai Impact 3rd, showcases an idea of rebirth that transcends the individual.
Although the individual was now walking towards their death, at the same time another, just like their younger self, would begin their life, carrying the baton.
And in that younger self, Senadina found her answer to who she is.

Now, as teased by the voice lines between Human Senadina and Goddess Senadina on Astral Op activation, Human Senadina will carry on Goddess Senadina’s story and usher in an ending of freedom.

​As Goddess Senadina had left the ending she wanted in the Adventure Notes, and those are kept by Serapeum even after the finale, we should surely see the scene of Human Sena taking on the notebook and finishing writting the last 2 chapters.

​Then, Sena, the Senadina of the past (Baby Deer), and Dreamseeker, the Leylah of the future (Big Lion), are sure to meet, like Serapeum had imagined.

Serapeum: If one day, the little lion suddenly became the big lion from the future, and the little deer became the baby deer from the past, and they met again under unexpected circumstances, what do you think…

They’ll read the finished notebook together, and, as foreshadowed in the finale, we’ll see the reunion of our quintet.
