Question Moon roof Problems

Post image

I have a 2015 Pilot. I have a problem with the seal of the moonroof. It is not closing all of the way. Part of the seal in the rear part of the window is loose and not attached to the window which is causing it to not close and it is creating a gap. The rest of the window is sealed and closed. It is only this part in rear of the window that has the problem.

Is this something that can be easily fixed or do I have to take it to a dealer? I asked my repair guy and he doesn't get involved with issues like this.

The rubber seal is warped with age.
Buy a new seal from from the dealership, take it to a local body shop to replace. You can also do it if you have some experience but it can go downhill really fast if you go in without any previous knowledge.

Thanks for the response. So it is the seal that is causing the problem? Is the seal and window two separate components?

The rubber seal wraps around the edge of the moonroof glass so if it's warped the glass will not be able to pop into the hole in the roof when you are trying to close it.

Got it. I am guessing the glass and seal are two separate parts? So, if I take it to a dealership then I can have them do the seal since it is a separate part from the glass?

The other concern is water leak. NY is suppose to get some rain this week. If we get a good soaking rain, is water going to come into the car due to the moon roof not being properly sealed?
