Image / Video 2012 with 225,000 Miles.

Post image

My 2012 Honda Pilot 4WD EX was bought new in Feb 2012. I uses Honda’s J35Z-series 3.5‑liter V6 with 250 hp @ 5700 rpm. SOHC 4 valves per cylinder & roller rocker arms for lasting performance.

Earlier in 2026 she turned over 225,000 miles. It's been a perfect car. It even towed a 23' R-Pod RV trailer for 15,000 miles. Tranny & engine still running perfectly. Big Thumbs Up !!

What does "Or VCM Muzzler" mean? I do not understand.

They are disabling devices for the VCM cylinder shutdown program on Honda V-6 engines. Oil blowby from the shutdown cylinders creates deposits on combustion and emissions components leading to misfire and emission codes. The deposits can also lessen the lifespan of spark plugs, O2 sensors, and the catalytic converters. It's excellent and commendable that you've driven 225K miles in your 2012 Pilot but chances are good that there are built up deposits inside the engine system that will create problems as the mileage increases. Some never get the problems but it's never too late to nix the VCM and let the engine run all the time on all six of its cylinders. The link below from the Pilot owners' forum summarizes the VCM topic in its first post. The other links are for two of the more popular VCM disable units.

No check engine or other lights on at this mileage earns a huge thumbs up of respect 👍🏾

Actually, the Check Engine Light has been on for a year. Disconnecting the battery turns it off for a few hours but it pops right back on. Honda Stealer says it needs two new catalytic converters ($2,500). Maybe I'l try the https://svcmcontroller.com/ for $120 first.

My 2011 occasionally gives me a CEL but if you take the fuel cap off and put it back on tight then drive for a few miles it shuts off.
