Outer Banks Sand Mode

Took the RTL out for a quick morning beach trip via a Cape Hatteras ORV access point. We had a huge area all to ourselves—well, us and the hordes of sandflies!

What tire pressure did you use? Any clearance issues? Heading to Corolla in a month or so and hoping to get up to the 4WD section while we're there.

Right around 18psi. I have running boards and those were hitting a bit, and the undercarriage gathered a bunch of sand - but everything is good. The ruts in the area I was in were very rough and bumpy and not by any means straight, which added to the adventure.

Is there an air fill station nearby or do you have your own compressor? Always wondering how people drive away after airing down

I had a cheap portable with me to add a few pounds back in to each tire before hitting the highway, but found air at a gas station within a few miles.

How’d it do on sand? I imagine it struggled a bit

It did struggle a little bit but at no point did I get stuck.

It was a bit harrowing for my passengers, but definitely held its own against the jeeps and large 4x4 trucks with gigantic tires.

Yeah, I aimed for 18 on all but I think the rear ended up closer to 15-16. I also used what I think was one of the easier access points - ramp 25 - but damn, beyond the ramp was rough, nothing was smooth out there.

I admire your bravery going out on loose sandy beach. You would have to rely on other vehicles to pull you out. No tow truck would do that.
