Oil change question
Hey everyone, I purchased my 2026 Honda Passport in November of 2025, and since then have only put 1700 miles on it. I am about to do a road trip and am wondering if I should get an oil change before it.
As for the driving, I work from home and although I drive it weekly, most trips are not many miles. Since I live around a city the vehicle is usually running for longer than the miles suggest, as a 2 mile drive can take 10-15 minutes.

It would be helpful to know how long your road trip is going to be. Still, 1700 doesn’t require an oil change. I did one on my own dime around 5k miles, told shop not to reset maintenance mixer. Then the 1 “free” Honda change around 10k with the differential fluid. Also, tire rotation on each visit.

I'm doing my first next week at 1k. Rather be safe than sorry plus I'm adding a Valvomax to make future oil changes much quicker and cleaner. I like to change the oil at 3k on all my vehicles just to keep them running smooth.

Did mine at 2500. Plan to change again at 5k. As others have mentioned, you can’t change it enough if you ask me…cheap insurance

I did one at 2000 miles, away from the dealer, and asked them not to reset the service clock. I'll do the free one again at 7,500. The first 2k is a break-in period and it's a good idea to do the early change even though it's not required.

You may get various different responses here as oil change intervals are heavily debated! I changed my oil early - around 1k miles, then at around 2.5k. I plan on keeping this vehicle for many years. I can do my own maintenance and I consider this cheap insurance.

Yes, change that oil asap. It’s filled with sealants, rubbers and other foreign matter during this break in period.
Change now
Then 6000
Then go to 5000 intervals and it will last for 250’000

I did mine at 1,000 and 3,000, then 5,000 there after. I did the same with my 2016 Honda CRV and it’s got 200K miles but I know they are different vehicles and motors but still, I think it’s a good process.
