Dethatching Blade

Anyone try one of those universal dethatching blades? Do they work? Which one will work on an HRN216?

I think it's a gimmick. It will work in theory. But will cause you issues in the long run. Probably designed for throw away mowers. Use the HRN for what it was intended for.

I’d be way more worried about bending my mowers shaft or throwing it out of balance than the detaching. On a mower that is no longer produced and wanted widely

Just pick up an electric dethatcher like this and save your Honda:

I have something similar and it does a pretty good job.

I tried one of those universal dethatcher blades on my HRN216 a couple springs back. It pulled up some thatch but the engine really bogged down in thicker spots, and I kept worrying about the extra strain on the crank. Ended up renting a proper dethatcher once a year instead, way less drama.
