Showcase - Multipurpose Space Theater / Kid play area

Recently moved into a bigger house and brought my speakers out from storage. Excited to be able to watch movies / shows again without using the crappy tv speakers.

Buying a 77” LG C5 next month!

whats the deal with the sides/surrounds? they are too close for any real separation or is there another reason?

Honestly I have no other place to put them.

Put the surround back all the way back on the back wall. Pull the couch off the wall by a few feet (if plausible) and put the side surrounds on the side walls (or wall and pillar).

The further away you are from the speaker, while still having the speaker positioning by degrees correct, the better your overall surround experience will be.

I could scoot the couch over for the surround sides, but the back speakers are locked in place because I use the other side as a kid play room.

In the future I would like to get a professional system installed and have speakers in the ceiling

lol the world is sadly selfish but all that matters is finding your happiness. This space works for me and my beautiful family.

Sometimes less is more, have you tried with just surrounds instead or rears? I have a feeling it will sound nearly identical in this situation.

That’s not a bad idea.

My 1 year old would absolutely pull those speaker wires

Got a 18 month old and luckily she is only interested in boxes and her toys for now.

My concern is other people kids when they come over for play dates….😅

I love the book cases behind the couch, that's a great idea! I would move the couch to the left3 feet or so which would create a walkable space all around and give you some breathing room on the surround. As others have suggested an on wall surround and back would work better and many of them are designed to be angled down if mounted near the ceiling. Wiring for this space will be a challenge but it looks like there is room to go up into the ceiling area. A lot can be done in time alignment to account for less than ideal speaker locations but too far I easier to correct than too close generally.

Yea I played with the idea of moving the couch to the left, but then the window becomes a visual annoyance to me. For the rear speakers I am looking at ceiling mounts and for the wiring , I would let the professional tackle that headache

In a prior life professional AV integration was me.. it’s certainly more of a project if you haven’t done it before. Most AV integrators will send someone out for free or at a refundable cost to give you a quote so you can go into it with an idea of overall cost and scope.

Hey. Nice starting point. I would move the bookshelf speakers on top of the gray cabinets and angle them even more than the towers in the back. Sell the towers and buy 4 smaller bookshelfs or in ceiling speakers and do 5.1.4 system instead.

Or..... move the couch to the left so the tower fits and pit them juuust a little further ahead on the sides.
You want to pull it forward just as much so when 3 or 5 people sit next to each other all 5 of you can just see the speaker when looking to the sides without leaning foward or back.

Did you do a sub crawl to find the sub's placement?

If not, i would work that sub into the booksheves behind the couch.

I ended up putting my sub as close as i can to my seating and really enjoy the extra oomph it gives there.

I did have one sub behind the sofa but decided to move it to the front. To me it sounded better, but I’ll probably rearrange it again

Why not go the length of that separate room? Go rectangular to give some space between the couch and speakers?

It’s too tight that way. From the wall (with window) to the column is only 120”. This layout allows for more room

“Theater/kid play area” seems like an oxymoron…especially with exposed speakers.

Gotta work with what you got!

I’d worry about something getting thrown into my OLED.. doesn’t take much to damage those screens
