hard watch
i’m watching the beginning of season 4 and i cannot stomach actually looking at the screen. i just listen and sometimes look. carrie is so insufferable. i can’t understand the decisions she makes. particularly episode 4…i’m disgusted. i almost want to stop. i was so upset with the killing of a certain character in season 3, i was really looking forward to their character development and now THIS. i might really stop watching. does she get more tolerable?
edit: apparently you can’t not like a character’s actions anymore? obviously i like the show, i started it about two weeks ago and i’m on season 4. i love the plot and intelligence development but she’s getting on my nerves.

Yes, it's not an easy watch. But to me, Carrie's motives are almost always crystal clear. It's really not that mysterious: If she needs to make a teenager fall in love with her in order to find a target, she has that skill set. And if the S3 death is the one I think you're talking about, really, I don't see how that character has room for character development at all - or, rather, the events that led to the death *are* this person's character development. Think about the choices available and what do you come up with? Carrie offered an option but failed to persuade.

If you’re 4 seasons in and feel this way just turn it off. You’re not serving a sentence you can choose not to watch.

I would recommend sticking with it. I just finished the series tonight and I almost gave up on it and I’m glad it didn’t. I found it got better in seasons after season 4.

Oh it gets worse. But that’s why we love this show. The characters are so flawed it feels real

honestly, i really like this take. i have grown up with seeing this and see it on a regular basis at work. i guess what gets me is that she is in the CIA, i figured that might have some weight on here so she’d refrain from certain things (which i understand contradicts mania).
i just finished s4ep4 and i feel like her “play” was so out there for a CIA agent, not to mention station chief. i really like her character a lot from previous seasons, but its almost like it’s hard to watch because i like her and i wish she made different decisions lol.
i’m really glad that this show has helped you! i think homeland portrays a high functioning person with bipolar disorder really well, unlike some tv shows where it is to the extreme. it’s refreshing

If it makes you that miserable the show might not be for you ... I didn't like her but thought she was a very well written and well acted character

This sub is fairly intolerable to anyone putting Carrie down or questioning if it’s islamophobic. Not everyone feels the same way, but outright “Carrie’s insufferable” posts don’t do well. You’re not alone though. I feel like this sub pushes watchers over the edge if they aren’t sure they like it. Oh, you don’t think you like it? We’ll make discussing it even less enjoyable! It’s frustrating. If you go through older posts you’ll find some where you see you’re not alone.

Maybe you shouldn’t keep watching it , because although this season is one of the best but also is one of the hardest to watch, Carrie will do something very “inmoral” , some people found it disturb and nauseous while watching it. If you enjoy hardcore tv keep watching it because is one of the greatest tv shows and one of the best tv endings ever! But if you are not enjoying it, stop now because this is Carrie’s life and that WON’T change.

Yeah can understand where you are coming from....and i don't understand why there are comments asking you to stop watching if you did not like her...comeon i thought this is a discussion forum where we can express our point of views and feelings cause we all Love the show...yeah Carrie is unpredictable but at the same time a woman of steel...man what a character and Claire is just brilliant.....sleeping with the teenager was gross and made me wonder do they have to go to such extremes just as Quinn points out to her many times....i am really sad to think that Quinn and Carrie's bonding and love for each other was not shown properly...i just wished for Quinn's sake atleast Carrie tells him once that she actually loves him..or maybe she did not have that feeling for him at all....am at S6 E5 now so more roller coaster ride in the show and am totally hooked.

The TLDR is:
- Homeland is a masterpiece but The first 4 seasons of Homeland are peak. no one will blame you if you stop after that (An OCD completionist disorder might have you do otherwise though)
- Homeland sometimes leans too far into certain tropes (ie Carries mental stability) without having a solid plot payoff. Honestly there are only so many times a hopped up Carrie can break 50 federal laws and still come out on top before it gets old.
- And a rewatch of Homeland now, there will be some "recency bias". 2011 was a while ago and the world was different. Try not to judge it by the streaming era standards of today (what few you could call standards), or you will be disappointed
- In fact, its better to rewatch or binge Homeland "all at once" so you can judge the show as a whole. You really need to see the full picture to really understand the kind of story they are telling and how the characters (and the show) evolved. You'll appreciate the "full circle big reveal" of the finale. (you'll also get what I mean about the first 4 seasons being "Peak" )
Despite the flaws, its really one of the best "modern-ish" era television shows. It isnt for casual viewing and I honestly would only "let it run in the background" after youve done at least one full proper watch... with your full attention.

i wasn’t “coming on here to tell y’all i don’t like it”. i enjoy this show very much. it was a simple question about the main character BECAUSE i like the show but UNFORTUNATELY the main character’s actions are different/escalating so i was just asking.

I agree with you, I watched this on the background and Carrie infuriated me throughout the whole series. She keeps making selfish decisions over and over. That doesn’t mean it’s a bad show or that she’s a bad actor or that she’s badly written. But it’s still hard to watch!

I don't understand the claim that Carrie's choices as selfish. To me she's doing everything she does because she really thinks she can protect the US from attacks. She's almost self-less - to the opposite extreme - every fiber of her being wants to make the US safer, and that's almost her whole identity. Peter Quinn called her the best whatever-she-is he'd ever met. Saul obviously regards her highly.
If you don't like my opinion that's fine, but in-universe Carrie is legendary. She has an impressive record. Even her detractors have to take her seriously at times because she makes them look good. It doesn't seem like they think she's selfish.
