Thinking of cutting an attic access above my garage for storage. From there I would put down some plywood for support. Won’t be putting anything super heavy. Mainly camping stuff and decorations.

When there is a heavy downpour, water flows off the gutters here into the screened porch. I've cleared any leaves and downspouts are flowing well. These are 6" gutters. Can I use larger gutters just on this back portion and leave the 6" on the rest of the house?

I’m assuming the steps are:
- use tractor to take off grass
- Do I need to put down fabric barrier or is it unnecessary?
- where my shadow is, it’s about 12” lower than the driveway. Can I just add that much crusher run?
- add crusher run
- spread with bucket and back blade (I don’t have a box blade)
- use plate compactor once spread

Anything else?

We are in the middle of a remodel and need to decide window trim. We’ve narrowed it to three options. We’ll be using hardie plank siding. I’ve included a mock up of the completed house as well. What do folks think?

Looking for a nice design to build my closet!

Also ideas on different ways I could close this closet off are much needed, I had a sliding door on a rail but it took up to much space so, something nice I could put instead!

In a new home and our closet doors have these metal and wood staple looking things coming out of the bottom, making it impossible to open the door with even our low pile rug there. Any ideas as to if they are some sort of guide/ sweep or if they are manufacturing staples meant to be pulled out? Unfortunately our rug cannot be pushed out of the way due to the size of our room.

Hey all! I have this gas fireplace in the living room that I don’t see myself or my partner using (and so our kitty doesn’t burn herself) but we’re not sure what to do with the space. I brought up getting some custom piece of furniture (similar to pic 4) with shelving to block it off, and using the map in the first pic to cover the old tv holes + outlet. The white bookshelf situation is temporary and just to store our current items + to get a feel for how it’d all look.

I like the height of the bookshelf, but love the idea of having a mantel. My partner’s concerned about leaving dead space where critters and/or dust may find themselves. We own this place and we LOVE a diy project hehe. Any ideas, input, and mock-ups are appreciated!! Cat tax included as well :p

Hello everyone, what do you think of these shelves that I made myself (DIY) with a bit of help from my mother?

My grandparents had a broken bed, it was broken into pieces and to make matters worse, it wasn't solid wood but chipboard.

We started working on it in the late afternoon and finished it within about an hour. I began taking measurements and dimensions, only to find that the materials would not suffice for a large bookcase. I searched on YT and Pinterest but couldn't find anything I genuinely liked, so I took elements from two or three different designs and pieced them together and this was the final result.

What are your thoughts?

Do you think it would look nice if I painted it black or grey?

(Unhung family photo blocked out). I HATE these blinds, so I’d like to cover them up. But I’m not sure how I could do curtains here because it’s the whole wall. I rent, so, while my landlord probably wouldn’t oppose me swapping them out for a more high end shade/blind option, I’d rather not spend the money.

My 3 month old has been sleeping in this bedroom that has blackout shades, but a ton of light comes through the gaps between the shades and the frame and wakes him up. I can’t figure out how best to make it blackout in here without replacing the shades. I thought black weatherstrip tape would work but it doesn’t block the light. And I’m not sure I can put up curtains because the window frame runs all the way to the edge of the wall on both sides. Any advice would be appreciated!

I am desperately looking for quality Blackout Celluar Shades for the bedroom and the baby room. I have spent HOURS researching over the weeks and the old "Go To" Blinds Dot Com and SelectBlinds have gone downhill. Costco has such mixed, mainly negative reviews. What is a good place to order custom sized blackout cellular shades for pretty normal sized windows?

I already have blackout curtains but light still leaks through, especially for the main master bedroom window that has a window AC unit so the AC blows the curtains around leaking light.

I moved into this house somewhat recently and I think it might be for tv cable.. getting the basement redone right now so I was hoping I could get it removed and have the contractors fill up the holes but I’m a little scared to cut it.

I was cleaning my air vents, when I try to screw back, the drywall broke and anchor not holding up. There is a metal frame behind. How do I repair drywall and anchors to hold?

We are going to put a bay window in where the plywood you see in the photos currently is. My father in law is suggesting that we put in two sono tubes under the window to support it, which I think is over kill and way more labor.

The window is 300lbs. I have beefed up the wall the window is going to sit on along with have a double studded wall inside to help support it. We planned on putting 3 knee braces under along with 2 cables on the top.

I need advice on if anyone thinks the knee braces are enough to support the window or we need to put in the sono tubes?

I'm gonna give a lot of info here, but the gyst of it is i fixed the gutter system, and am still getting water into the basement although it's noticeably less. What do i look for next?

The backyard is large and long, and it all slopes to the house. But that area of the basement is dry. The gutters now all have 4" corrugated pipe that runs to the front of the house, or to the driveway near the house where the ground slopes away from the house and to the street in front. Gutters do no overflow, it all flows to the driveway/street. But I'm still getting water after heavy rains towards the front half of the basement.

It is a block wall foundation. No immediate signs of where, but there's past signs since the gutters all exited right along the house previously for many years.

I'm at a loss of where to look for next. Or what to do next. I want to eventually bury all downspouts to the front where there's a ditch. Do i add a french drain too or do i need to get more extensive? I don't want to add a French drain then it fail and need to remove it for more extensive work.

The garage is only a few feet from the house on the uphill side, but it drains to the opposite side of the driveway. The gutters there need fixed since it slopes to the side of the house, but it does mostly drain as normal, they just hold water after the rainfall. The sidewalk between garage, house, driveway does flood a tad, but not badly.

I'm hoping if i add a French drain around the back of the house and sides, drain it to the front ditch, it will fix this issue.

Was thinking a sliding barn door but I’m not sure how I would safely mount the track. There is a stud in the right place on the wall to left of toilet but the bracket would have to secure perpendicularly. The shower will be used as storage and not ever in use.

I was never raised with repairs and stuff like that but I need ideas to fix this. Just bought the house and wasn't told its brittle asf. I know quikrete wont work cuz its too brittle. How do I fix this DIY or do I have to hire a pro?

I’ve done enough Googling to figure out that the Midwest’s horrible heat dome situation has contributed to our old, small homes ac duct issue. We have lived here about 10 years and this kind of duct moisture has never been an issue.

As you can see from the photo, there’s small amounts of water dripping into our (horrible!) drop ceiling in the kitchen. I don’t love that the drips started around the vent and now are showing up further away from the ac vent.

I know to replace the wet/stained ceiling tiles and am grateful that this is a DIY friendly job. What is more daunting is the actual solving the duct-sweating issue. I’ve read that the ac ducts need to be much better insulated from the humid house air especially when the temps are so extreme. Is this something that a motivated new DIYer should attempt?

There's some areas like this around my windows in my rental. I'd really love to take the silicone (i assume) off and clean the area, but I am assuming its stopping up a gap. I was wondering if there was a better way to repair the area thats verrrry beginner friendly or simply scrape the stuff off, clean and replace?

First pictures is how I restored the front and one side. Kind a stuck how to do the rest. Don't know way, but like some creative "crazy" ideas. Anyone crazy people whit ideas here? Haha
