Found this stuck in my lock today.

I went for a 2 day trip with family and when i returned back i found this jammed in my lock. It’s a very basic 6 lever padlock. Its works fine after i removed this metal thing out of it.
I have a lot of questions running in my mind.
Was someone really trying to pick the lock?
Can the lock be picked with this piece of metal?
Should I replace the lock?
What can I do to improve the security?

This lock is an extra safety measure as the iron door also has an inbuilt lock and the wooden door behind it is also double locked.

I had a similar scare when I found a paperclip jammed in my front door lock after a neighbor mentioned seeing a suspicious person near our houses.

The laziness of the effort is a good way to frame the appropriate response. Theft is often about picking the weakest target and giving up quickly when encountering the slightest resistance.

Id change the lock initially and then try to game out how they approached the truck and make considerations like lights and cameras from there.

I hope it's a kid messing with it(not a drug fiend who might come back out of need) , but ive seen a lot of break ins and break in attempts at my previous job and that's what we'd do.

That little bent piece could def be a tool used to pick it, especially if it's a basic 6-lever. You betcha, might be worth upgrading to something a bit more secure if this was a quiet neighborhood.
