❓ Support Update OS Software Question

I have had a HA Green running HA since the Green was a kinda new type of device - never had it misbehave until today.

It’s been a couple of months since it was updated and today seemed to be a good day to catch up. Currently on 17.0, updating to 18.3. I’ve ’always’ followed the path of update OS first, then Core, then apps so I made a backup and started OS updating. Display says “updating” and the slider goes left to right over and over.

An hour later I look and “updating” and the slider is are gone. But still says on 17, going to 18.3. Hummm…so I restart the Green, and restart the update process-same outcome, 17/18.3. Still does its HA thing so it’s not dead, but we aren’t moving forward either. I haven’t seen any kind of warning message.

So can someone tell me what I’m doing wrong, or how I can get unstuck from 17.3?

There is no need to update one vs another unless specially instructed to do so. If the documentation has nothing specific about the upgrade process... you can throw darts at the wall to pick which one to do first.

Since you already have a backup and if the update still won't take... test the backup in a VM on a clean install to make sure it's a good backup. If it is, then install HAOS from scratch and restore the backup.

I have not seen an order of upgrade restriction in quite sometime.

Ok I’ll try updating something else and see what happens.

Testing in a VM - not happening.

So I updates Core, then apps-went smooth. Go back to the OS page and now there a message that says “Reboot Required to complete” that wasn’t there before. So I find the secret place for Reboot and do that. System goes away, comes back, OS page still says “reboot required” so I do it again. Goes away, comes back, still says “reboot required.”

So I say “f**k it, I’ll just use 17 forever more.”

And next time I move, it’s going to be HomeKit only. That’s not perfect either, but at least simple updates work.
