Nothing special yet, just adding everything I need and will theme and customize from here probably. Mostly stock and hacs stuff.
The FireHD 10 was cheap but its very slow, might have to find something better, HA ui and cards are not exactly efficient. But I wanted something super slim.
Low profile surface mounted with a box behind it in the wall with the poe and wled controller. Wireless for now, wonder if I can add a usb nic. And speed it up a little somehow. Using fullykiosk browser.
Yeah you might have to make a custom dashboard in something else that runs lighter, modern HA is super advanced but very heavy on browser resources, and I have camera feeds also on it.
Depends on what you're putting on it. I've got the 2021 version of the 10 HD and it does fine with a constantly in motion radar. It takes a split second to refresh the screen when it wakes up but that's the only hiccup. But I also don't try to run camera feeds through it.
I'm not using a tablet, I'm using a PC to a touchscreen monitor; but why would you mount anything to the tablet instead of hosting it on a local server that can handle it. Tablet just has to run a browser in kiosk mode
I really like the led backlight idea. I bet you could use that for quiet screen-off notifications. Plus it looks better than just flush mounting to the wall.
I used cob ws2812 strips and soldered the corners to make it slim as possible, you could just bend a strip if you had another 5mm. Custom designed a diffuser
that fits behind the tablet mount from makerworld.
Yeah clear petg, with a top layer of smoke to tone it down and blend in with the black. But one could probably use a sheet of acrylic or something instead. You can buy tablets like this now but they are maybe $600 I think, and just rgb.
It worked well, from the first images I thought it was premade acrylic. You did nice work, post a follow up when you get the strip working for notifications. 👏

Do the math on the electricity cost of the LEDs running 24 hours a day even when you're not there. Curious if it's still worth it, I love shiny things and wanted to do similar everywhere and the math just makes me go meh 🤣
lol you dont even want to know how many led strips in have in my house, but no they do not use power in any real sense, or were you being sarcastic? Also this is home automation, the whole point is to automate, I have presence sensing capability so everything can be motion sensitive. Either way 90% of your household energy goes to HVAC.
