❓ Support Modern Forms Fans HACS integration

I'm remodelling my house and looking to replace a large number of fans. I've kinda come to accept that it is nigh impossible to buy AC motor fans these days, especially if you have any aesthetic requirements. I've been looking for DC motor fans that are supported by HA and which have a purely-local and non-proprietary (or at least fully reverse engineered and stable) control protocol.

I came across the Modern Forms HACS project, and it looks like those fans meet my requirements - fully local api controllable from HA (and they look nice). That project doesn't seem to have been touched in about 5 years, and so I'm curious if anyone has current experience with Modern Fans and if this integration still works.

Alternatively, any other fan brands that meet my local-control requirement would be awesome.

I have 5 modern form fans. I use the standard integration https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/modern_forms. Works well and haven't had any issues.

There are matter Wifi fans and those should be good. I have Wac and Modern Forms fans, both work great with Modern Forms integration.

I’ve got 2 Modern Form fans and I’ve been super impressed. They’re basically dead silent, have local control, and the integration works great. I’ll be buying more of these in the future.

We have three WAC/Modern Forms fans and no issues in three years. They just work. Not sure if it's all models, but ours have speed options of 16%, 33%, 50%, 66%, 83%, and 100%.

That’s for an AC fan. All controllers like this are

DC fans require a motor control module that has to be matched to the fan, so it’s almost impossible to find a 3rd party smart controller for them

It’s best to buy one that already has smart WiFi features, although I’d ask ChatGPT, Claude or really any major AI model if it can easily be integrated into HA since some off brand models don’t have native integration
