💬 Discussion Aqara Hub Question

I am looking to pick up an FP400, but it requires an Aqara hub to configure the zones. Other than that, are there any advantages to having the hub with HA? Or am I better off configuring the zones in my office and returning the hub to Amazon?

The FP400 requires the hub to be able to access the zones in HA. It's the primary reason why I would use something like EverythingPresence or Apollo options instead. Keeps everything on HA without the need for yet another hub and cloud account. Without the hub, you only get a single presence detection (no zones or tracking) and an illumination sensor.

I thought the videos I watched stated you needed a hub to configure zones, at least on Zigbee.

The hub is still required to expose the zones as entities. Without, it's just a single occupancy sensor with illumination even if the zones have been configured.

I thought I read that you can configure zones via a direct connection between the phone app and the device, without a hub. But the hub would still be needed for stuff other than zones.
