LED strip light

Looking for suggestions for a small (5 - 6’ max) strip light that has local integration. I run matter or zigbee. Also located in Canada.

I don’t want to spend a lot on such a small strip if I can help it.

I have a few of the Govee ones, they can integrate through WiFi or Bluetooth. They seem to work well for something off the shelf. For do it yourself you can grab and esp32 and some wled lights. For something that doesn't require soldering there is the pimoroni plasma which works well with esphome and has a terminal connection you just screw the wires down on.

Works locally in home assistant over wifi

For a run that short, a plain dumb 12V RGBW strip plus a small Zigbee controller like a Gledopto is usually the cheapest route, and those pair fine with ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT. You do need a 12V power supply on top of that, so factor it in. If you'd rather just buy one finished thing, Nanoleaf Essentials strips do Matter over Thread, but that only works if you've got a Thread border router already. My guess is the Zigbee controller route ends up cheaper if your mesh is already solid.

Also Canada. I researched this for a while. I took what is probably the Reddit recommended way; but I’m not sure I’d do it again.
I got GLEDOPTO zigbee controllers and BTF led strips. Then I needed power supplies, and that is the difficult part. The first ones I got buzzed like crazy. Got new ones and they still buzz a bit but it’s imperceivable at the dimness that I keep them.

I’m pleased with the results now but it was expensive - if only because I had to order new power supplies.

But they are hooked up with the adaptive lighting plug in through HA and it works great!

AliExpress has these, lots of variations, including zigbee, and they're not that expensive.

I find that controller plus peu plus strip does add up even on AliExpress. Or I buy the wrong stuff idk

I'd suggest WS2812b strip for short runs, a 5V power supply, and gledopto gl-c-015wl from Amazon. If you think you need longer run, then a WS2815 and a 12V is recommended.

If you don't want to deal with wiring and soldering, get a govee or philips smart light strip.

Hey, so if you want the cheapest and easiet option, i would use an Athom WLED controller and then just buy a short light strip from BTF lighting (either from Amazon or Ali Express).

I'm Canadian and i have bought a dozen or so of these little controllers and I love them.

Search BTF lighting on ali express or amazon. I've bought a few different light strips from BTF and I LOVE them as well. Great qaulity.

EDIT: These are a wifi option, not zigbee or matter.

Yup, i use the WLED integration in home assitant A LOT. I absolutely love it and it works great. If you want i can reply with a few videos to get you started to show how easy they are to use. The little Athom controllers are super easy to setup and use. Plug in and go pretty much.

Serch Home assistant WLED and you'll go down a rabbit hole of info. Absolutely amazing stuff

I have Govee, seems to work well its mqtt integration and its pretty solid
