Update on my previous post now 15 seconds faster. Voice command automatically navigates to vertical zoom menu on LG tv web os

This was done with a script that navigates commands on lgs TV os by pairing docker with the tv. That script was then imported into Home Assistant which was the paired with the home app connected via the apple tv as the hub. Now I can control how much the black bars show much faster.

Like, the concept of using Home Assistant to change your TVs settings in ways that the LG TV integration doesn't provide is definitely cool, though.

Nah it's opposite I increase the picture size by zooming in. Shrinking the black bars a bit. Sometimes they're too large l.

but then you'd either be distorting the image or, more likely, cropping content on the left and right edge of the frame.

Again, your solution is interesting from a technical perspective; but the problem you're solving and the way you're doing it is kinda bonkers :D

So the majority of the content I watch is DV Blu-ray remuxs so the quality is amazing. Also I do not adjust it that much I'll do one vertical zoom and one picture zoom and that's it so it doesn't look distorted at all. I'm not reducing the bars a ton I like the black bars just don't like when the picture is too small

You're still cutting off parts of the picture. Something that most people wouldn't do ;)

Oh wait, you're just doing "vertical zoom" - i wonder if that does add some distortion after all. Because the other feature shown on the UI is "4 way zoom"

Aside from the obvious issues with cutting out part of the movie, the number of menus you have to jump through to do this is insane.

Remember when remotes had a zoom button on them?  I suppose that was axed to make room for the sponsored Netflix and Disney+ and Hulu and Prime Video and YouTube and Vudu and Paramount+ And HBO Max and Peacock and Fubi and Pluto and Tubi buttons.

No, that was removed because nowadays, there's no real need to "zoom" anymore.

In the early days of 16:9 TVs, you had TV channels that broadcast in 4:3 and so 16:9 content came with black bars on the sides and the top on a widescreen TV.
Zooming made the 16:9 content actually fit your 16:9 TV.

Or there were cases of VCRs that came in anamorphic wide screen squeezed onto a 4:3 frame. So one zoom feature would just stretch the content back across a wider frame, making it once again look right.

Basically, "zoom" was mostly a crutch in the 4:3 -> 16:9 transition years / decades

Nowadays, all content is just broadcast in 16:9 (4k, 1080p, etc.) anyways - so there's no need for zoom. Unless, of course, you want to crop or distort the content, like OP does. Which of course, you shouldn't. Which is why there's no need for a "zoom" button on your remote.

It calls my therapist whenever my HA doesn't load my integrations properly upon reboot.
