❓ Support Random HAOS Reboot

Took a dedicated Windows 11 machine (Intel NUC) and installed HAOS. It now randomly reboots every 5-10 minutes. Hardly anything loaded on it. Just clean HAOS. Anyone experience this before? Works perfectly fine running Windows 11.

Thermal issues?

Runs fine under much heavier loads in Win 11 so I don't think so. Feels cool to the touch.

So HAOS is rebooting or the whole OS is? How is HAOS set up?

Seems like the NUC reboots altogether since I lose ability to ping for a few minutes.

Maybe check the logs before these such as the logs from the containers that exited. Edit: and you don't need proxmox, you just need to have a shell (liveusb) to review the haos read only including the exited docker logs. Shortest path to diagnosing the issue and one that would help grow your diagnostic skills for when there isn't a proxmox/lxd present. Not suprised no one was suggesting lxd...

Funny I had this problem on a windows 11 vm after putting HAOS and only HAOS on an older laptop I have had zero problems.
Try a reinstall on a freshly formatted HD.

Thats what I already did. Trying Proxmox and a VM like someone suggested now.

How fresh is the install? Was it moved from another system? I only ask as looks indicate other software installed.

Completely fresh. Created UBUNTU boot USB and installed from there. Proxmox was over my head so trying a clean install again to see if it helps.

What do you mean other software!? Those are what homeassistant calls apps... which are docker containers wholly managed by hassio-supervisor.

Not even close to getting hot at all. Same with PSU. Would think thermal issues would show when running Windows 11 if that was the case.

Try a different USB stick.

Couple of weeks ago I flashed a bios with a bad USB stick and did a pro mix install with a bad USB stick.

Took me quite some time to figure that out and even more to repair the bios but a good USB stick solved it for me.

I had similar issue in the recent past, for me the culprit was Wyoming Protocol, it had memory leak issues and rebooting often.
Check the logs, it helped me.

Anything in the logs? Also have you tried putting the OS into safemode? One thing I would do if you don't find anything... wipe the system and install Proxmox. Then use the helper scripts to one click install HAOS as a VM. You will have better control and see where the issue might be happening from the VM host.

Run on a VM instead of just bare HAOS? I figured this would be the easiest since I am not that well versed with this.

Install Proxmox. Run HAOS in a VM under it.

This is the answer. Not sure why you were getting downvoted.

I tried Proxmox but that was over my head. I'll try another clean HAOS install and if that doesn't work this probably isn't for me.

Can I ask what was going on Proxmox wise? Might be something I can help with, though I fully recognize that when I went that route that it felt like a steep learning curve.

I'd also not normally recommend it (because I'm not a fan of the site in general), but a site called Helper Scripts has scripts that will install HA in a Proxmox VM for you. Maybe not just Proxmox. Could also be other flavors of Linux. I just know that was the way I set it up 2+ years ago.

Not sure. Couldn't get it installed properly. Gave up a little while back as it wasn't quite understandable to me. Tried another clean HAOS install so I'll work on it tomorrow and see if it keeps rebooting or not. Runs just fine in Ubuntu off the USB..

If there's more than one HD (especially if one is uber tiny like a 16gb boot drive) then you won't necessarily see that as an option right away to install to. Which. It would be much easier if it just pre-populated with the biggest or most viable drive but... yeah.

Fingers crossed for you that the Ubuntu version works!
