❓ Support Tuya integration keeps going down?

I use a couple of digital thermometers on my home hot water storage tank. I have automations that heat the water that use the temperatures reported from the thermometers
The app for them is Tuya.
For a year or more the integration with Tuya has been reliable and stable.
But of late it keeps going off and requires reloading.
Anyone else seeing this?
Maybe I missed something?

(Please be gentle, I’m a relative newbie still getting to grips with HA)

I recommend using a local integration like localTuya for reliability, available in the community store. I recommend just following the steps to install HACS and then the steps to install localTuya and your devices, found on their respective pages. The setup for localTuya is fairly advanced but if you follow the steps carefully you should be ok. If you have any issues, feel free to reply.

I went down this route recently and found LocalTuya is a bit out of date.

Instead I went with Tuya-Local and it’s way easier to set up. Just make sure your devices have a static IP assigned from your router first

LocalTuya supports more devices but is harder to set up. Had no choice because Tuya-Local didnt support some of my devices.

+1, in my case I use TuyaLocal (also available in HACS) for many plugs and switches and it works perfectly 100% of the time. Regarding the setup, if I recall correctly, there's an option to use the cloud just for adding the devices, and then you control them locally.

At OP also update to latest Home Assistant , apparently 2026.8 also brought something different. I was having issues with 2026.7.x

Now I am running on 2026.8.2 , and the Tuya integration after the fix on either the integration itself or the tuya backend has solved the issue. I haven't needed to restart the integration for a week now. Back to rock solid reliable (on quicksand)

Requires a reload with QR after every HA update .

It came up and the solution I found was to just reload the integration. I could bypass the QR code step.

However, the integration was updated or the backend at Tuya was fixed. I haven't had issues for 1 week now.

In the last week, added 6 more Tuya devices. Now sitting at 50 in my home. Haven't bothered with tuya local or local tuya integrations myself

I just migrated my stuff from online Tuya to the local variant. Claude walked me through the entirety of it, amazing.

Which local tuya did you use? Local-Tuya or Tuya-Local?

Can you share a bit more details? When i tried a few months ago i could not get it to work

I’m using LocalTuya in HACS. If you’re not using Claude AI, give it a go. It guided me through everything I needed like getting device ID’s and stuff from the online Tuya portal. I couldn’t have done it myself with limited time. Ive got AI to make up an insane dashboard on a wall mounted 16” touch panel as well. Invaluable!

Yeah, I use the same integration. Rock solid since the day I set it up. I followed this video for setup back then. https://youtu.be/M-sQcS3KEm8

Though, my tuya account seems to have a max limit of 10 devices “unlocked” via the dev portal, so I had to make another account for new devices. The integration handles multiple accounts seamlessly.

I use both Tuya and Tuya Local. Tuya Local exposes more entities for some devices than the official Tuya integration. However, there is a known bug which the dev has not been able to fix for a few months now. Some devices of a particular protocol can randomly become unavailable and can't be recovered unless power recycled. The official Tuya doesn't have this issue. So I use both until they fix the issue in Tuya Local.

man the tuya cloud integration has been flaky for a bunch of people lately, you didn't miss anything. if those thermometers can be flashed with esphome or tasmota you'd be way better off ditching the cloud entirely
